Damm Peruvians. :) Don't you know us Cuban's run South Fl. :gap:
What kind of A/C work. Like general or automotive? If it's automotive my dad can probably put you in touch with a lot of people. He has his own mechanic shop. Let me know.

Then I wish I had a job where you worked!! :)
But I don't think that we get paid nearly what people get paid up north. I know that if I were doing what I'm doing here in Florida (Orlando, Miami or Jax), I'd get paid a hell of a lot more up in NY. The pay rates between our offices suck. :( We have to fight to get $15 an hour here, where our other offices will get paid $20 no problem up north.

I agree Chrissi24. I am in the Medical Field & they pay squat down here. Back in NY, where I am from, I could get much more money but then the weather stinks!
On the other hand A/C work does well here, don't know much about the escort biz though...
Guess they figure you don't need money to live in paradise...
where in the medical field?? cuz i know that nurses get a $15,000 signing bonus in orlando

you guys need to understand that the reason the salaries are a bit higher up north is because of the market differences and cost of living, which is higher up north... especially NY, which both of you mentioned... in my field, salaries are well within the national average and even higher than some...

It's all about location. Cost of living is extremely high compared to living down here. A nice 1 bedroom apartment down here runs around 950 a month. Up in the Tri-State area is easily 1800 a month.

i.e, if you live in california... admin/executive assisitants make about 15/hr starting. here [in fL] they only make about 8 starting. the gas there costs about 2.75 (cheapest) and over here its only like 1.33 (cheapest). so it all justs equalls out. win a lot, lose a lot. win a little, lose a little. enless your name is bill gates and you always win.
everything is related end of story..

That was my point. I think you misunderstood what I wrote. Like Neil said cost of living and pay is relative. In the end you live just about the same.

What field?
Tampa/St. Petersburg seems to be the land of minimum wage (and call centers). The cost of housing has increased drastically over the past several years, yet salary increases have not been commensurate.

software engineering... interesting you said you live in call center land... we write computer telephony applications using speech recognition for large call centers; we try to minimize the need for human agents, which are more expensive to utilize than a computer...

I think many people prefer a live person over a computer. Call centers are so focused on efficiency (call times, answer speeds, etc) that they lose sight of something more important: providing quality customer service. They cut operating expenses, but lose customers; a very short-sighted business strategy.
However, that having been said, I have seen some demos of VR software that is VERRRRRRY impressive. Shoot me a PM sometime if you're interested in talking about it. I'm a systems analyst and do a great deal of software development myself.

absolutely!... the first thing i do when i call an IVR, is to push "0" as many times as i can so that the system transfers me to the floor! lol... thing is, most call centers ask us to make it very difficult for you to do that, they really try to keep you from talking to someone...

indeed... i am working with via voice (IBM) at the moment, but i am impressed with the accuracy of nuance's VR engine... here are some nice demos if you (or anyone else) wanna play around a bit... 1-888-NUANCE-8

po9i,
I am in Xray / Bone Densitometry (Central Fl/Maitland). Everyone is right, up north cost of living is more but it all balances out in the end.
