OK First of all ALL 02 OWNERS TO CALL AND GIVE THERE COMPLAINT NUMBER ON THIS THREAD ASAP!
Call 1-800-331-4331 AND GO BY THIS THREAD MADE BY GRIFFIN, i used it to further describe on the phone the situation.

Request:
I'd like to request that Toyota please fix a problem with the rev-limiter for my 2002 Celica.

Decription:
In the 2000 and 2001 Celica the rev limiter (which is the point at which the ECM cuts off fuel) would stop the engine at 8400 RPM. For 2002 that changed without warning. According to Toyota's comments to Car and Driver in teh August issue, this was soen with out TMS consent and the Rev limiter is being re-instated for 2003. Which leaves me with a few problems:

1 - My brand new 2002 is a slower and worse preforming car than the 2000 and 2001 models

2 - the Value of my car when I go to sell it is going to be impacted by this issue. Why would anyone want to buy MY car when they could have an 00 01 or 03 with the "good" rev limiter. This will mean I will have to discount the price of my Celica and take a hit on the price when I go to sell it.

3 - The fact that Toyota now knows it sold sub-par vehicles to many 2002 owners gives you a change to make up for your mistakes. Please produce a new engine computer to bring back the old rev limiter and restore our lost performance. If you don't there are a lot of 2002 owvers that will probably be looking outside the Toyota Car line for their next purchase.

anyways thats just a starting point - feel free to add or refine it. The main thing is that we have to be sure they understand the request and that the words we use (like rev limiter) are consistent.

I had to put it easyer terms for him but he got the idea , Btw he also said this isnt right for them to do this. I also explained that the 03 will have the 8400 RPM fuel cuttoff <---- this Definatly makes us the black sheep of the years!!!!! Describe that!
I told him to be ready for a whole lot of peeps to call up ther about the 02 fuel cuttoff! He said if we get Numerous amount of calls TOYOTA HAS to respond with the FIX!

I WANT peeps 2000 2001 2002 ALL TO CALL TOYOTA Talk to this Clint guy ....... thats who i talked to (usually men can relate to our anger about this than women)

Well, I hope they give you guys a break, but I wouldn't count on it. They'll probably fix the rev limiter just like the fixed the blown head gasket on the mkIII Supra :p

I called Toyota and talked to some guy, he put me on hold for a few minutes then came back with " the celica GTS has its peak power at 7600 rpms and that they are not going to do anything about what you are calling about" I then asked him what was the engin that celica GTS had in it...He said that he did not under stand my question... I asked him what type of engin that my car or what code number my engine has in it...again he could not anwser...So i then asked are they going to do anything about the rev limiter...He said No thats the way that the car was desinged...I then asked him if my car being the only year that has a rev limiter of 7600 would affect that value of my car he said that he doesnt know how the value will be affected by the 2003...Then i asked if there is anything that i can do at all...he said no...so then we hung up...

02_gts,
Please call back. Ask to talk to a supervisor. The supervisor I spoke with was Scott. I suggest you ask for him. Tell him that the representative that you spoke with wasn't willing to help you with your problem. They did the same thing to me. All they want to do is make excuses. Please don't give up on this.

Scott told me that he doesn't expect Toyota to take care of this, but it could happen. We need everyone with an '02 6-speed to complain.

You people are fighting a loosing battle....The readline is 7800.....The manual says do not rev over 7800 in the 00-01's, which the 2002 max out at, they're not going to spend a dime adding more rev to a motor past the indicated red line.....

Think about it.....
