now i've heard that because the celica has the variable valve timing vvtl-i or wutever its called, you cant advance or retard the timing which means adjustable cam gears are pretty much useless.. does anyone know this to be true or can anyone explain to me what da hell dat guy was talkin bout when he told me u cant put adjustable cam gears on a car that has vvti or vvtl-i.. thankz any help would be apreciated..

the ecu automatically adjusts the timing, so there is no need to adjust them your self. Also like Scott mentioned in the OBX cam gear thread adjusting them would be a hassel. I say just leave it to the ecu.

I stil dont get it, so if there is no use in buying the AEM cam gears, why do they make em for the celica???

aem doesn't make them, obx supposedly does... it's not really confirmed for sure yet.

I would rather adjust my own cam timing than have the ECU do it. The ECU adjustments are good for a commuter car for the consumers. But the way factory ECUs are programmed, it's definitely not doing the best thing for performance. It could be a great benefit if software and hardware interfaces were available to let you set your own adjustment curve. But until then, it's not so great.
