well if you have a manual there is a chance more than likely all you could do is practice your launches and get some reall good tires

Ya, those tires that give you 40hp.

nearly slicks would help you out if you scratch... and obviously since you asked on the Forced Induction board........ your looking at spraying. shrewed way of getting a nawz discussion going on your car ;)

i think CAI, header, catback are enough

Yes if the GTS driver doesn't know how to drive. If you want to beat any un-moded GTS go forced induction.

For me it's more fun to pick on Mustangs and Camaros because they cry more when the get beat by a 4 cyclinder.

But Not all Mustangs & Camaros :)

assuming the GTS driver is clueless.. ask Maef he will tell you, he would always race his buddy in his GT versus his buddys GTS and he would lose all the time.. and he has the FASTEST GT time yet.. takes more then alot of GT owners think it takes.. if the GTS owner has a clue how to drive their car

I have beaten a GT-S, but the race was only through 1st, 2nd, and into 3rd, then we had to stop. i have hot shot headers, CAI, and trd exhaust and wheels and tires. It is all in the start.

all you need is CAI and exhaust and the skill to drive better than the next guy, That's the hard part. The car doesn't drive the guy the guy drives the car.

...

my friend's been driving his gt for a year. his gt has the aem cai and the trd exhaust. a month ago, I raced him. at that time, I had been driving stick for a month. it was from a roll and I completely obliterated him (I pulled on him as soon as I hit lift in first). we shut it down halfway through second because there are a lot of lights on that street.

granted, he might have beat me if he launched. My point is, it'll take a lot more than I/H/E. NO2 will probably do it.

ps I notice that not a whole lot people are speaking from experience... just speculative statements.

I dont drive either (lOL I drive a corolla) but if you do want to beat a gts which is easy all mods here is a good combo..

CAI
Catback Exhaust w/ high flow CAT
Headers
Ported & Polished Throttle Body
Ported and Polished Heads
5 Angle valve job
AEM Pulleys
SAFC to optimize those air fuel curves swith all the air coming into your engine
Good Tires and light wheels and remove spare and and otehr weighty items

That should be more than enough to take out a GTS though
And if you want to finish the job via all motor then get 11.5:1 Compression pistons and your set! All of this would kill a GTS...

and for that much money you could've traded in for a GTS.

it wouldnt be that much price difference is 4500

exhaust cat back is 500
intake 300
port & polish and 5 angle 550
safc 400 installed
dyno tuning 100
header 400
pulleys 200

thats 2450..

then stronger rods and pistons if you wnated would be 1400

which is 3850 so its still less and at this point he shuld really be outpowering a GTS

OR

T3 exhuiast manifold 550
SAFC 400
AVCR 450
J&S Safewguard 550
T3 Turbo rebuilt (junkyard it) 250
Injectors 200
downpipe 100
BOV 50
Intercooler + piping 500

Total (3050) if i aint missing anythign at 6.,5 psi boost will take out a gts

another 1400 which is 4450 he could bump the pressure up a good amount

Then again you could get the 2zz which I have heard seems to be a lemon engine... or well toyota didnt fien tune it as well as it shulda been or sumthuing cuz they blow left and right... but yeah mods will make ya lose warrenty

Is the price difference really $4500?

I don't know how much you got your GT for, but I brought my fully loaded GT-S for $22500.

Add all your options on a GT and you pay about $19,500. Difference of $3000.

You forget, we also get better brakes, wheels, Leather Seats, Better stereo, etc., IN ADDITION to 40hp increase.

I bought a used fully loaded GTS. It has every option except the wheel locks (I don't know why). A new GTS fully loaded is about 27k. So was your's used? '01 used... hrm...

anyways... werd :D

You paid 27k for your GT-S??? Just cuz you got ripped don't mean everyone did.

Goto carsdirect.com and select a 2003 Toyota GT-S with Leather, Sunroof, 16" Wheels, ABS, Sunroof and see how much it comes out to.

$22,575.

Yes my car was new when I brought it.

it is about a 3k difference for better brake, wheels and power. but the question lies. my problem was the higher insurance GRRR... i did not want to pay 230 a month when they quoted me the same proce for a 1993 supra TT what!.

someone else paid at least 27k. 2002 GTS 6spd with extra mile package c, leather interior upgrade, 16", sunroof, vehicle protection package, side air bags, and abs is 26.6k MSRP. according to toyota.com. carsdirect.com doesn't list everything.

I paid 18k after 2 years. sports cars depreciate quickly.

Well then, a fair comparison would be a GT and a GT-S with IDENTICAL options would'nt it?

Source: Carsdirect.com

You take a base GT-S with no extra options and carsdirect price is $20,575

Then take a base GT to give it the same options that comes already STANDARD on the base GT-S, which is:

Wheels: 15in. Alloy
Premium Stereo
Upgrade Package (Power Door Locks and Cruise Control)
Fog Lamps

and the GT comes out to $17,857

The difference between the GT and GT-S with the SAME options is $2718

That $2718 pays for:

40 Extra Horsepower
6 Speed Tranny
Rear wheel disc brakes
GT-S Badge

Now do you think its worth it?

I'm not debating whether or not it's worth it. I'm just saying that the MSRP of my car was 27k when it was new. anyways... this has gone pretty off topic.

I don't care. I love my GTS and I'm so very glad I didn't get the '01 GT that was sitting next to it at carmax. even though it was like a grand cheaper and 14k less miles.

well at my age it also saves me 800 + a year on insurance had i gotten a gts over a gt if i had either.. also 15" rims nah just get aftermarket no bother upgrading that.. premium stereo more shti upgrade it urself cheaper....

fog light they usly get nice fatermarket ones cheap just keep the power functions... and the price is now?? but yes u do get 6 spd and read disc brakes.. 40 extra hp can be achieved easy with moneyu u save... and a gts badge is cheap LoL rice....(if u switched gt to gts badge)

Only thing that i like is the rear disc brakes... 6 speed cause shifting problems sumimes and also u get an engine less liekly to blow witha gt...

BUT this is all pointless arguin cuz it depends hwo u look at it and such... gts are good as well as gts for different reasons so lets leave it at that :)

LoS, you don't know what you are talking about.

Rear disc brake conversion cost roughly $1500.

40 whp cost at least 3,000.

Leather seats will set you back at least $500.

6 Sp. conversion cost around $1500.

You could have gotten everything in the first place for $2750

And no there's no problems with the GT-S Tranny and Engine. Its the people who don't know how to drive who IS the problem.

this argument is stupid. everyone has their justifications for having thier cars.

i have a gt because i got it for 17000. now, i don't like the toyota leather, it gets all folded and wrinkly, i don't really want to pay extra for a heavy moon roof, or a stock radio i'm switching out anyway. i did buy other stuff so figure 18000. now thats still 40000-5000 cheaper than the prices I was given on a GTS. because with a gts you HAVE to get all the upgrades, thats just the way they come. also, about 100 a month extra in insurance, and within 3 years i'd have spent a good 8000 extra. so sorry no gts for me. wish i had one but not for that kinda money. i'd much rather have a modded gt than a BONE STOCK gts, even if mine is slower.

:werd: why do we always argue about this?, ill give you my reasons why i got my car, at first i didnt even wanna race it, so i got a GT, i didnt want the wheels because i didnt like them and i was gonna switch them out, i didnt get the premium sound system because im switching it out, and i dont like leather, i have all of the other options on the car (moonroof, powerpackage, ect), plus i got my car for 19k out the door, MINIMUM price for a GTS at my toyota is 25k, and since i decided to race it, im glad i got it because now i can run turbo and nitrous and roast all your mofo's alot cheaper than what you would have to pay for the same.....

yeah... a 50 shot kit for GT will make it a lot faster than a GTS with it.

:werd: onigami. But anyways, we all have our own reasons we got the car. Sure, you can argue all day that "I got the cheaper model so I could turbo it with the money I saved!". So did you yet? Probably not. It's not like we all spend cash on our cars and have $5k laying around with nothing to do with it. Most of us finance. And I know that my $30/month or however-the-hell-much it was is well worth it for the extra things that came with my GTS. But they're both Celicas and they're both awesome :)
