Knowing that the 2003 Celica will get a DBW (drive by wire) system, do you think they will incorporate the SMT (sequential manual transmission) that they have for the MR2 for the Celica? That would certianly be a very nice option IMO.

no, the smt I think will go into the next gen celica, if at all.

Doubtful. The automatic Celicas are slow enough, and the slow shifts of the SMT would make them even slower. Plus, you can't do any brake stands or neutral drops with the SMT.

Acyually...I believe you can do neutral drops with SMT. And it does shift faster than the auto's. Also gearing would be an important issue...4 for the auto and 6 for an SMT equipped celica. I'm not saying it's coming out, but it would be much more useful and lighter than the current auto transmission in the GTS.

the SMT on the MR2 was called a joke by many. Hopefully it's just a learning experience and Toyota comes out with a real tranny in a few years.

toyota needs to learn from BMW, the new ///M3 SMT works very well.
