Ok, that's on an eclipse. If someone wanted to do that on a celica I was thinking where to put the LCD. I don't own a celica yet. I was looking at interior shot. I wa thinking you could gut the area above the receiver, that's a storage compartment anyway. For sunglasses and such, right?

Anyone here done that? or had that idea?

Can anyone give me measurements of that area? Looking to see what size LCD could fit.

I'm interested because if I do get a celica that might be one of the first things I do it. That computer powering it will not only play MP3, but I could hook my GPS up to it too:)

The first thing I thought to myself when I saw the above pics was security. If the LCD could hide behind the door of that compartment I don;t think there will be much of an issue. It'd look like the car just had the stock radio:)

Well, I wouldn't know about that. Note I am a newbie to this board:)

I'd need a toushscreen LCD. Many on ebay. Hmmmm...

I need it as a touchscreen because then I woulnd't need a mouse or keyboard. Windows has an on screen keyboard. Plus I know the ins and outs of windows 98. I could easily make it look like windows doesn't even exist on the computer witha custom programmed interface replacement for the windows shell.

Since I just want it for MP3s and GPS I don't need anything powerful. Might pickup and older laptop for it then. Hide the laptop under a seat or here ever. That way the laptop can easily come out with me. Great for security and getting more MP3s into it:)

Anyway, I don't even have a celica yet. I plan on it, losing a job kinda delayed it:(

What type of touch screen is that? How much? From where? And how does it interface with the video feed? VGA? RCA? I am interested in doing something similiar for MP3 and GPS. I have an laptop with a broken screen just sitting around I plan to use for this project.

It's a Sharp laptop screen. There is a guy on the Internet that is selling these for $260 USD shipped. They are about 4,000 color (12 bit) which is great for most applications and fairly good for DVD. They take a VGA signal from your video card and convert it to work with the LCD. The touch overlay is capacitive (glass).

The guy's E-Mail address is dennis@dwk.org .

You can check reviews on the screen in the forum at www.mp3car.com . Do a search for DennisK LCD .

Kewl! Thanks for the info. Now all I need is a good place to mount the screen.

I'd take it that is a custom dash. You do it or someone help you?

Where's the computer powering it? laptop or pc?

The trim piece was modified by me to trim out the LCD. The PC is a motherboard with built in sound and video mounted in a false floor in the trunk with the stereo.

Sleeka - nice install, I'm impressed.

For the rest of you, an easier route, you could always get hold of the JDM piece for the screen, which is made by Toyota:

If you've got friends in the UK I can ship it to them direct ;)

Wow... That is some impressive work Sleeka. Yeah I have the JDM trim, and I would have gone to the 8.4" route, but I wanted something to be up there in the counsole. Damn... I wouldn't mind making mine touch screen, since it gets annoying now to have my note book hook up with an S-video connector there!
