Anyone have a product to recommend for use with a buffer to try to pull out (or whatever the hell they do) small scratches on their cars? I have a small car buffer and the sponge pads with cloth covers to be sure it doesn't screw the crap up, but would like a tried and true product that will help a lil' rather than just trying to buffer the wax.

I don't have any in particular that I would recomend as "the best." Try Mothers or Meguiars, they both have numerous variations of scratch remover for both hand and machine application.

Check out their products on-line and find the one that suits your situation so you don't have to stand in the store for hours reading bottles.

Can you help me out in my thread about buffers?

if the scratch looks like it is from a crayon, and not the kind where paint is gone, try rubbing compund, it is a little more abrasive than claybar

What you want is a polishing compound. The difference between a pure polish and a polishing compound is a polishing compound contains abrasives. That is how the scratches are "removed". You actually bring the thickness of the paint over the entire car down to the level of the depth of the scratches so they will dissapear. Just start with a very mild compound and work your way up.

One thing you should probably do after you are done buffing your paint is find out what is causing the scratches in the first place. It could be the towels you use. Even though the towels say they are 100% terry cloth they probably arn't 100% cotton. Try switching to a brand such as Cannon or Field Crest that make their terry cloth towels out of 100% cotton.;)

Ive used meguire's for over 12 year's. This compound has done magic. Pay attention to the heat of the paint. I can fill scratches in the sun, but HEAT will kill you. Whool pad's, green pad's very between expeiriance. Go with a medium cut pad if your not familiar with paint repair,. The green pad is best to use. Be sure to keep rpm's low you want to work the paint not your machine. A lube does help. Glass cleaner or water will do the trick.
