extended warranty a good idea?

I'm thinking about getting a 6yr/100K toyota warranty b-4 my 3/36000 warranty expires.

For those of you that are between 36K-100K miles, have you incurred repair expenses over $895? ($895 is what a dealer would charge me for the extended platinum warranty)

YES THAT IS WORTH IT! Just had a new transmission installed after only 1 year... I got the warranty at the time I bought the car that you are speaking of... It was a little cheaper than that when you buy the car, but not much.. Trust me the transmission work had a cost to dealership of $2500 which means it would be more for us to pay because they profit on labor/parts...as any business does...

If you buy the extended warranty, is it just like the warranty under 36k miles? Meaning pretty much anything they fix, or is it more of a powertrain type warranty, only a few things covered.

Well, i wish i got the warranty for my 4runner, at 95k miles the engine blew, a $6000 job :(

The one they offered me didn't cover a ton of things...it didn't look to me like it was worth it. My car already had 100k powertrain coverage(anything having to do with engine and tranny) b/c it was "Toyota Certified", but their extra warranty on top of that didn't cover a lot of stuff that usually goes wrong on the cars...the one that stands out in my head was they won't replace the CV joints if they go bad. Read the small print on it and decide from there. There's a whole page of small print on what they don't cover :)

thanks for all your inputs! i think i'll get the warranty. so next question would be: does anyone know of a toyota dealer that charges less than $895 for the platinum extended warranty?
