i need some advice. I am going to get the new jl audio w3v2 10 inch subwoofer. I am not sure which type of amp to go with. Since i want to stay with one brand, i'll probably get the jl audio 300/2 channel amp and just bridge it to the sub. will this be okay, or should i shell out the bucks for the 500/1 amp.

one more question, I already got a set of jl audio XR 650cs component speakers. I also have a set of pioneer ts-a6995 6"x9" (got them awhile ago). Should i just get the jl audio 300/2 amp to run the components up front and let the head unit power the 6x9's or get an amp to run both sets of speakers and if yes, will the jl audio 300/4 amp be enough to power all the speakers with help fromt the head unit?

sorry for the long thread.

get a 300/4 to power your fronts and rears. although i don't know why you'd use those rears. too much tweeters and crap for rears, it'll screw with your front sound stage. but anyways, 75 watts rms up front is plenty for those components, jl amps are still a little underrated, tests have shown their 300w amps to be more like 400 and the 500/1 to be closer to 600.

so i'd use the 300/4 on your 4 speakers (head unit on rears that take as much power as those 6 by 9s will leave you will no midbass from lack of power, so no stock radio powering), and a 250/1 for a single 10w3v2. its rated at 300 watts rms and that about what you'd get from a 250/1. of course overpowering a jl sub is usually ok but i donno about using a 500/1 that may be a little much for me. you could get a 10w6v2 and the 500/1 that'd nice. or 2 10w3v2s and a 500/1.

What about using the 300/4 amp and the head unit together to power the 4 speakers?

Couldn't i use the 300/2 amp and bridge it to power only the 10w3v2 sub?

Thanks for your help j3adseed. you seem to know your stuff.

you could use the 300/2, the only thing with that is, you're using an AB class amp to power your subs. thats not a big deal, but if you use one of their class D amps, they're more efficient, so they take less current and put less strain on your alternator and electrical system.

using the 300/4 and the stock hu? how? you have 4 channels and 4 speakers? you could biamp the fronts but nah, just run the fronts of 2 channels and the rears off the other two. the 300/2 would be good for subs but i wouldn't think the 250/1 would be bad either. the 10w3's now are rated at 250 rms and the only reason they're rasing that to 300 for the new ones is because they have better cooling capability, not because of big voice coils or anything else like that. you could always give the jls more power than recommended anyway. so anyways my point is i wouldn't see an underpowering problem using 250 watts to the 10w3v2s, but you could also go up to 500 watts (you just have to be more careful when going that high not to pound them for long long amounts of time and end up thermally blowing them).

i'm sure you'll hear a lot of people say you can't blow a speaker by giving it too much power, which is true kinda, with a clean signal you're fine (especially on a jl sub which can take more than they say). but if you start clipping with tons of power (if you turn it up loud you will be clipping some, even if its not audible) and do that for long enough, you will start to burn em up.

anyways i'll probably do 2 10w3v2s on a 500/1 amp. thats all i can do with jl amps since they only do a 500 then 1000. so doing a single one on a 250/1 is the same thing.

did that make sense?
