ok smart @$$ lol.... i have NEVER messed with a celica before... are they really 4 cylinders??? i thought that there was a 6 cyl. version..... i dont know.... :( i know nothing about imports lol... but thanx anyways.... are all as fast as i seen at the track??? i ran an 8.4 in the 1/8th

A stock 00-01 GT-S can hit as low as 14.9 1/4 mi. with a good driver (02's are slower because of a lower rev limiter). They can get into the low 9's 1/8 mi.

BTW, the last 6 cyl. Celica was made in the mid 80's, called the Celica Supra. Then it split up into two separate cars, the Celica (4 cyl. FWD) and the Supra (6 cyl. RWD).

z28 is not super fast in my dictionary~
i raced couple z28s.. beat em by few inches.. lost by few inches..
its really close~
i belive z28 was stock but my car had intake n exhaust.
highway 40mph roll start was really close~ i kept it up..
im sure z28 is faster than GT-S but hey! my friends don't believe me but they saw me killing stang GT bullit.. me:8200rpm powershiftin n bullit boy: missed 3rd gear.. hehe
w/ equal drivers.. z28 will beat GT-S but it'll be close.

ok.. so if i see a gt-s as opposed to a gt then it is the good stuff?? and would be a pretty close race with equal drivers?? (2000 LS1 vs. gt-s celica ) i have seen some on the highway but never got the chance to get up to them ( too much traffic ) should i have a better chance from a roll or from a dead stop???

and i beg to differ to the fact ya'll stated about camaros not handleing for "sheet" the SS i have is a BEAST on the corners with alllllll bmr "supplies" up in under the car..... these cars are not the best..... but they can be made pretty tight. :)

All I gotta say is a 93+ z28 can do some wooping up on a celica. I had a 2000 SS and raced a few celicas and to be honest I was like damn them things are slow as hell. I didn't buy my celica to race comaros I bought it because it looked cool and I can whoop up on some civics, and of course I can't get insured on another camaro unless I work 5 jobs to pay for insurance. As farr as handling my celica doesn't handle any better than the camaro did. I guess I just pushed the camaro to the limits and knew the car very well, unlike my celica.

True - there are worse cars around corners, but the Celica is kinda hard to beat around a road course.... but don't take my word for it let Scott show ya :)

To answer your questions GTS is the faster of the Celicas and no it doesn't matter if you go from a roll or a dead stop your Z28 will probably still pull on the Celi with no problem assuming you drive well and hook up. I mean, sure, we make a ton of power for a 1.8 and teh car is light but down the 1/4 its hard to overcome a 140 HP advantage.

are you talking about the 93-97 Z28's which had the LT1 or the 98+ which have the LS1's???
i have hung with 97 and under Z28's but anything newer we dont stand much of a chance in a straight line:)

There is a 24 hour autocross at Eastland Mall on August 31/Sept 1. I will be there. Come on out and pay the $25-30 to play (safe, legal, fun).

I'll be happy to put on a clinic at that time.

I'll be there in a dark blue/black 2000 celica GTS, it will have the numbers "DS 23" or "DS 32" on the sides of it. My wife will be there too. I bet she will also beat you.

For what it's worth, a Celica should lose to a Z28 on both the street and strip, turns or no turns. I'm mostly betting that you dont know how to drive well enough to beat me if turns are invoved.

lol... i want to bother a celica because the only ones that i seen race have run a 8.3 in the 1/8th. i dont think that this is normal for the little car but i was just making sure. and i didnt build the SS so i dont know a whole lot about the other side( celica,ect...) ( in reference to knowing everything about all cars)

but i will say that dad's SS has: HEADS, CAM, INTAKE, LT HEADERS, SPEC STAGE III CLUTCH, 150 TNT, 12 BOLT MOSER, AND AN ARMY OF UNDERCARRIAGE GOODIES.... DYNOED AT 554 RWHP :) but this is not the car that i want to compare, i was wanting to compare my 2000 z28 that made 319rwhp.... i know that the celicas i have seen are damn fast.... i was just wondering how the stock ones stood up...

if you saw a GTS hit a 8.3 in the 1/8, then it's not unlikely you saw a GTS spraying. there are no turbos or superchargers, and even a small to normal sized shot of nitrous adds a big punch to the GTS (high compression motor). that huge jump in torque makes a big difference for such a lightweight car (2500lb), plus the close gear ratios often make for spinning of tires till 50mph, however if someone got traction somehow with a GTS on the bottle, it's remotely possible. and consider yourself lucky to ever see one of these, cuz i've only heard of one guy ever who hooked up well enough to run a great time on a GTS with nitrous (13.12 on a 50 shot).

if you're running an 8.4 stock, and you see a celi run a 8.3, how the hell could you think the celica was stock?

i mean..ls1 owners' almost always know that they're driving the fastest car out there in a working persons price range(pre 03)..

I just didn't realize that it was all that complicated to get ANY major car mag from the last two years and look in their road test summaries to get a general idea of how fast a Celica is. z28, theres no naturally aspirated celica that would beat a newer z28 in a drag race (what do they run stock? like high 13s?), but a GTS on juice would have a better chance. now you said that you ran the 1/8th in what? 8.4? well my best run with optimal conditions was 9.35 so your about a full second faster then my fastest run ever which is about the 3rd or 4th fastest on the database here. so i'm not sure whats up with the celica uve seen around your way. check this link out to see how other celicas run http://www.newcelica.org/other/track/index.php

We done told your punk trolling butt a million times your car is faster down the 1/4. Obviously you have no confidence in the Z28 you drive because you are too chicken to race IT, you wanna bring 500 HP and slicks to the table which is absolutely preposterous. You had damn well BETTER win with 500 hp.

Oh - about Ortega Hwy (no its NOT a normal hwy)... a word of warning, the road has about 3 feet worth of straightaway in 30 miles worth of road, the dropoffs are about 100 to 500 feet, theres no gaurdrails and we Celica folks run it for kicks.... but hey you've got 500HP so no worries right? Assuming you can handle that power well enough to keep it on the road.
