So i get my car back 2 months after it gets run over by hummer, everything looks fine when i get it back. I go to change my bulbs to all blue and when i took off the connects the tips of them were fried. I decied o go ahead and put the bulbs in anyway cause i was glad just to get the car back.
Anway 3 weeks later the whole wiring harness fries and melts to the bulbs. I take it back to toyota with out the bulbs in and told themwhat happened, and they said they cant cover itunder warrenty beuase the have to take it up with the body shop. Both the body shop and toyota say i fried some chip that controls the blubs, and it was casued becuase of the heat my bulbs gave off. I call BS on that. Now they want $1,400 to fix evrything all becase of the bulbs. The bulbs were Hyper Industries H7. Does anyone know what i can do to prove it wasnt the bulbs fault or how i can get out of paying 1.4k ofr new headlights, or any advice would help.
thanks in advanced

Nah, it's the bulbs fault. There's no way around it. The additional power draw put additional strain on the headlight system. The additional heat from the high wattage bulbs melts harnesses.
Try to find a new H7 headlight connectior. Etoyotas or someone a while back was selling them.
that happend to some other guy on this board, you can get the connectors from dave draper, is that really your car??? or you just using it in your sig??

no that is not my car, i just liked the way it looked so i used it in my sig. I would use my car but i dont have a scaner or a digi-cam. if it bothers you people that much i wont use it anymore. As for the headlights,i know i can get the connectors, but what about the chip they were talking about that i soppesedly melted. thanks again
drew
i don't mind you using the sig, looks pretty tight, i think he was trying to rip you off with the chip thing, cuz if it blew your car would have no ights at all

Yeah those Hyper Industries' wattages are too high, they melted your harness. The chip thing is BS. Go see how much you can get some harnesses for only and resolder them yourself. or see if you can find a wrecked celica and just get the harness. Just for future reference:
If you're gonna buy hyperwhite bulbs look for some that are stock or close to stoack wattages. ours can handle anything 55-65w.

allright well im going to give David a call tomarrow about gettng a new harnesses. If anyone else had the same problem as me could you please post here so i can make a case for myself. That and if anyone had water in there headlights and got new ones please post here too. Cuase i thought that could also be the problem of shorting out, thus making it a warennty issue.
thanks

Condensation (people have had it), won't short out the headlight. If the moisture got onto the bulb, the bulb will explode.
Plus because you used a Non-Toyota approved part on the headlights, it will be out opf your pocket.
$1400 for the harness does sound right. The wiring harness for both headlights, parking lights, turn signals, side markers all come from one unit.

if you used a 100W bulb then thats what did it. you melted the wires and its hella expensive to fix.. that is if they replace all the wiring. david draper had a cheaper way to fix this here: http://www.wctoyotasport.com/clients/ncorg/parts.htm call him and ask him about it though.
