Was looking for some cool posters and ran across this sweet one of a Nissan Sentra V-Spec:

http://www.conceptcarposter.com/fullsize.htm?img=other_img/Nissan_Sentra_SE-R.jpg

I know the V-Spec has alot of torque on the GT-S and about the same amount of HP. The loosk aren't half bad (mmm not a WRX, but close!), makes me wonder what to keep saving for, a Celica or a V-Spec.

Opinions? Intesting V-Spec info? I know this is a Celica site, but alot of you have differant cars :)

Theyre nice. LSD and 17" wheels stock w/ z-rated tires. Handle pretty well and will go off the line. They had that cd in every magazine at one point (the red one w/ japanese lettering) that told alot about it. Ive driven them, pretty good for a 4 door, in fact, If I didnt prefer the coupe look, this would be my next choice in the celica price range. Also comes with racing seats...dunno if this is an option or not, but ive seen them brand new with them.

LOTS of potential, Much tourque for a 4 cylinder, Needs a better design, ALOT of goodies for a good price though. I think they might also be in the same boat as us with the aftermarket support. Those cars have potential!

i'm not crazy about the way they look but i have heard good things about the handling and the torque.

I'd take one over a Celica GT due to the torque. With a suspension and brake upgrade, you'll be hanging with the GTS's.

I haven't driven one, but my friend has a SE-R. The torque is great. Pulls nice and hard.

The V Spec is A LOT of car for not much money. If I had to do it all over again...I would go with the Spec V.

The SpecV cannot beat a GT on the autocross course

Yeah man but a manual GT could beat your auto GTS. At least I've never lost to one (i've raced three) and this was way before I even had nitrous. I had the HKS hiper at the time, that's all.

Nice car. I would definitely consider it over God's chariot.

Yeah right, most of them can't even beat GT. And for GTS, good luck. hahaH

:stupid: We aren't talking about the auto GTS so leave it out of this. I know my baby isn't the fastest but she sure is pretty.

Spec-V's only problem seems to be that everyone under the sun with one is complaining about poor paint... and the engine is apparently good for 240 hp before it needs engine internals.

Spec-V is nice but I wouldn't go for one, not after what my friend went thru with his.

My friend just lemoned his Spec-V... he had four tranny problems within 3months after the purchase. Also, he had interior deterioration problems and much more. The car is shietty quality if you ask me. The way it is assembled..:nono:

My friend is waithing for his new one and he is not happy that he actually bought his spec-v....

As far as performance goes, it is nice but short gearing is the drawback. Very bulky torque and reasonable HP but the car is bit heavy. Interior kicks a$$ with color coordinated seats, in dash CD changer, 220W Rocksford fosgate system etc. 17" rims looks nice and like the black light housings with aggressive front end.

I still take my Celica GT over it anyday. Chicks dig my car more than his :D

I beat 2 spec-vs at the drag strip two weeks ago... had better times than both of them in my little GT... The only time they really pulled on me was when they hit 3rd gear... even then they couldn't beat me to the finish. I have a AEM CAI and TRD Exhaust... one of the Spec-Vs had an AEM CAI and Apexi N1 Exhaust.

My best time 16.205
Best Spec-V time 16.359

*Note: I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada I'm not sure what the altitude here is but those were the times we ran... can anyone tell me what that would be at Sea-Level?

I test drove one of those things when I was out buying cars, I picked the celi over the Spec-V cause of afew reasons:

1) Spec-V looks like a box, if i wanted to drive a box, i'd be in a pinto...
2) Spec-V is in its first year, probably has a lot of problems.
3) Didn't like the shifter on the Spec-V, it was kinda wierd feelin...
4) Cheap looking interior, with those ghey white gauges...

Yah, I guess that was why I didn't get one, the car was alright, handling wasn't bad, and it had good pickup, but I couldn't stand the cheap looking interior...

hmm cheap looking interior?? is a freakin 17k car what do u want oak wood trim??

Second white gauges??? hmm doesnt sound like a spec-v or an Se-r for that matter. since they have orange/grey gauges.

the spec-v is a bitch to launch, thats why track times suck. launch to high you spin, launch to low you bog, launch just right you get massive wheel hop. THats why most spec-v owners are having problems breaking out of the mid-high 15s.

p.s. i ran a 15.3@89mph with an exhaust leak. not that bad for a first time there. and it sure is fast enough to be a celica gt.

Did you happen to read the Sport Compact Car monthLy review of the new Nisan V-Spec? It's very important that you do so before purchasing it. They found a massive loss of hp AND torque between the claimed flywheel #'s and the dyno #'s. I'll look up what issue it was in. But Nisan saw the #'s and kept sending them different test vehicles to try and "correct" the problem. I think they were recording almost 25% drive trqain loss on a manual car. Nissan was like aaaaa we're not sure....

yeah yeah yeah stock spec-vs are dynoing mid 140s but yet they still are running low to mid 15s stock. BTW we gain 25whp from I/H/E.

So does a Celica. I like the Spec-V's. Their interior isn't any worse than an RSX or Celica. IMO the RSX interior is an absolute POS. Water from the car wash perminately marked my friends interior. WTH.

interior room sux. still as small inside as all the previous generations.

i was interested in getting this car, 6 months before its release. people from sport compact car were saying it should be as fast/faster than a type r. bhahaha!! and then nissan overestimated on the horsepower.

Nissan DID NOT overestimate on the hp. I hate when people say that noone has any proof that they did. So what our cars dont have the 12% loss the celicas drivetrain has. I guess the RSX-S, prelude, s2k are all overrated also since they loose the same amount as a spec-v??

And anyone who believes anything SCC says is really really stupid.

about the interior room, its alot roomier than most other cars IN ITS Class. I know for a fact its roomier than the corrolla, civic, and caviler. oh yeha and its a whole hell lot roomier in the back than a celica.

to me, its a fairly great car. i actually test drove one before i got my gt-s, and boy was it good for the money. i think its like 18-19k for the spec v and its pretty much fully loaded. has a nice rockford fosgate system. you get a lot of features for the money when you buy this car. overall its a nice sports sedan, but i dont like 4dr's, so i went with the celica!!

didn't nissan first stated that the car had 180 hp and then changed it to 175 when scc found out ?

Roomier in the back? I didn't buy my car to taxi people around. If there was a no back seat oprion I would have taken it. I'm not flaming the Spec V. It's nice to see the sport compact genre growing. But I personally wouldn't trade my celica for anything- OK maybe a Lotus Elise. But that's it

but I would take the SVT Focus for the same price
Or I would wait for the Turbo Mazdaspeed MP3 for the same price.

I've driven the Spec V and I loved the car. It's not perfect, but neither is my Type R. I don't, however, think a car enthusiast could drive the Spec V and come away totally disappointed. Also keep in mind that it weighs at least 200 lbs more than it could since it has two rear doors and enough leg room in the rear for real-sized adults. I wouldn't complain...
