Hey all,
I'm considering swapping a C60 6spd gearbox into my '87 AW11 MR2. I will be running a high-hp turbo engine (shooting for 450+bhp) and I need something that's not going to break on me once pedal hits metal. If I were to swap one in I would also add either a Cusco or Quaife LSD with some sort of heavy duty clutch; Apparently 93+ N/A MR2 axles can be used to bolt directly up in the AW11 chassis. Can anyone tell me roughly how much torque the C60 will hold before blowing itself up? Turbo guys?

Thanks!

If you're looking to put down that much power you don't want to use the C60, it's quite prone to break at that much power. People who put down lots of power in the Celicas usually use the E153 Tranny over at Monkeywrench.

X2 on the E153, specially if you are not using a 2ZZ engine.

I think the torque range doesn't even pass 200. If you're aiming for that high of power consider ther e153, it should fit since it's the older mr2T transmission too, otherwise you'd drive for about a week or two and blow it.

no thats a MKI MR2, the tranny that comes in that car is much stronger than a C60. the E153 will not work in an AW11 without more mods than required on the celica.

Yes, the easiest transmission to use would be the E51 from the Supercharged MR2. The C60 really won't hold more than 200lb/ft? That's pitiful... I'm a bit disappointed to hear that. At least the E51 has taller gearing but it's also a big heavy pig. I was trying to keep the weight down. What if I cryo-treated the whole thing? I'd be disassembling it to swap the C52 bellhousing and install the LSD anyways, so...

the gears are far to small and the final shaft just bend under the torque, it just not worth it to save the weight..
