Hello, I'm about to buy this car and am new to this forum, and I need some advice. ( the car is a 93 celica st manual (stick shift) engine is dead and transmission has problems.
I know that the engine in the celica is the 4afe but it looks like those in corollas and prizms of the 90-92, is it possible to install those of the newer generation (93-97). are the mount points, and bolts positions the same? (can i just install the 2nd generation engine swapping the ecu at the same time?) btw is the tranny in the 93 celica st the same as those in the 94-99 celica st? (5 speed manual) ? I know the corollas 93-97 (and prizms) can upgrade from a 1.6 to a 1.8 swapping only the ecu and the engine.. so it 'means' the transmissions should be the same? (i have an extra 94 celica st resting at home..)

This board mainly caters to the 7th generation celicas. I hope someone else will chime in with useful info, otherwise you'll have to search for other Celica forums.

If the engine of the newer cars is also a A-series engine it will likely fit with some modifications but don't quote me on that.

Anything from the 94 and up wont fit without modification your best is to find another motor and tranny or if you got the money for it get a 4age motor with everything it might come out the same price and you'll keep up with some celicas here

will it pass emissions test? am concerned about that more than anything if i install another engine...

If a swap is done properly with a newer engine in good condition then there's no reason why it wouldn't pass smog.
