View Full Version : Why are people so obsessed about modding the Celica?

Are there anybody who like the Celica just the way it is? Instead of begging companies to give you overpriced and unproven mods, why not appreciate the way the car is.

Most mods for the Celicas are useless, or not worth the price in my opinion. Does anybody agree with me?

Well i think every one loves the car the way it already is i mean that is the reason i bought the celica in the first place. But i mean why not make a good thing better....and people will always buy useless stuff for there car but that is just part of the fun...i feel u in a way though

have you ever put a CAI on a GTS?

I agree with the original post to a certain extent. I know I have better things to spend money on than mods to my car. I have added a few things, but mostly just to have something to do and to play with. I will admit that my car does need modding less than the Celica and in many ways is already. However, I have enjoyed working on it by adding the few things I did.

I do agree that there is too much complaining on here about lack of aftermarket. There is more aftermarket for the Celica than I'd ever want to do to my car. I think the companies have decided that most Celica owners are interested in looks over performance. This is shown though the extensive collection of body kits available, but no real performance mods. Market studies are smarter than most people think. They look at the broader picture that the individual can't see. They aren't always right, but it's now a science, and they usually are.

My point is some people make themselves sound so desperate to get aftermarket parts.

I have realized that it's more satisfying when spending money on myself rather than on the car. I am thinking of going back to drive a beater and enjoy my life elsewhere than driving on crumbling Northeastern roads with my car.

it's called a 'hobby'. some people collect stamps. some people play sports. some people mod their car. whatever floats your boat.

Blk00SS is absolutely right. Let people mod their car anyway they like. It's fun for them to do so. Some people like spending money on huge, deafening sound systems, some on enormous rims and extravagant body kits, while others would like to mod their cars to go insanely fast. To each his (and her) own.

Dealer Xing, if you are content with appreciating the car the way it is, that's great. But why hate on people that have a different opinion than yourself?

Personally... I dont like how it looks stock. And if it can be improved. Why not improve it?

I think this is kinda funny. Different things motivate different people. For me it is enjoyable to investage potential modifications and occassionally pursue aftermarket companies to create more mods (shamefully, not as much as I should, sorry Keyshawn http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/wink.gif ) But the funniest thing you said was "I have realized that it's more satisfying when spending money on myself rather than on the car." For me and many other people on here spending money on our cars is spending money on ourselves. My car is a source of enjoyment. Being knowledgable, meeting new people with a common interest, trying to start and be active member of a car club, and especially doing modifications to my own car, are all enjoyable experiences for me. There is a sense of pride not only in having a beautiful and powerful car, but in knowing that you had a hand in it's creation.

Just because you have different priorities does not mean that others priorities are out of wack. Others could question how you couldnt do modifications to your car. Your perspective is your own, and you should treasure it, but others have there own perspectives that they treasure.

I guess some of us just have the drive to make our vehicles faster. It's like an addiction. At first I thought I was doing it to have the fastest vehicle. But then I started putting performance mods every vehicle I owned including my Civic EX which was supposed to be for long economy drives.

I never said I hate or discriminate people who mod their cars, I understand it is a hobby but my feeling is the Celica is not a good choice for serious performance mods. Just think about how hard it is to take this car's engine apart, and stuff extra parts into the engine bay.

Of course I love the Celica, are you joking me? But overpriced (well maybe they are quite expensive) and unproven? Tell that to many enthusiasts and race teams who constantly test and use these products daily.

Useless? If you aren't interested in modding or racing the car at all, I would suppose they are pointless, but to us enthusiasts, this is what we do. "Every man needs a hobby."

I am not complaining. I am however campaigning an effort to get things done. These companies just need people to contact them and let them prototype products for our car. Sure some of the mods aren't for everyone, but I believe there is a market albeit for the more hardercore. And though those are the demographics of the celica, it is like that with many cars out there. I am not one of those people though. Let me have my performance parts thank you.

Mods on any car make it faster, and it is fun to get them! You can't imagine how excited i will be when i recieve my S-AFC in the mail and my Downpipe! Course, mods on my car open it up a lot more than a celica... but thats because i have a turbo from the factory and the stock exhaust and intake were both really restrictive.

I just bought a Celica GT-S and I love it just the way it is. People keep telling me to throw this and that on the car but I think it's all a waste of money. I took my car on the freeway once and encountered another GT-S with basic mods (i/e) and I pulled away from him every time he got next to me. My car is bone stock.

I bought the Celica as a daily driver because I don't like the way my Supra gets so many uninvited onlookers. The big city is a great place to get your car vandalized. So basically my Supra is now a weekend car.

well when I first got my celica, I told EVERYONE i wouldnt' do anything to it.. My old car was a Honda Civic EX and after I put some rims on it, it got stolen. My parents were pissed and said it was all my fault because I wanted to make it "look fancy" as they put it.

Well two years after I have quite a few mods on my car. The first mod was an exhaust and I got it for free from 5zigen. After that I was thinking, well I have an exhaust but my car is like stock height.. It looked kinda wack so i decided to lower it. After that I was interested in upgrading the stereo and that kinda went overboard cuz i was never satisfied.. and then more and more mods.. hehe..

It's all about having a car that nobody else has. People come up to me and ask me what my Celica is and when I tell them it's the new Celica they're like Noo, and amazed it looks like it does. I don't tell them I have a V-Side Kit and a bunch of Mods to get it looking the way it is.
wherever I go I see heads turn.... Some guy almost fell out of his truck when he leaned out of his window too far to point out my car to the driver.... Shure people can have some of the same mods but things will always be different because there are sooooo many combinations possible.

Its what the last couple of people said.. there are a couple of reasons.. I tried to figure out the dilemma myself.. afterall cars are the WORST investments someone can make... and mods are even worse.. when it comes time to sell the car if you'd like to even come close to getting a return on your mods you better take them off and sell them off then i figured out why...

People dont buy in order to make the cars faster... otherwise people can make it a business to put the CAI, exhaust, NOS , and turbos in and have ppl go crazy on them (they're called import tuner shops by the way)

Individuality is a huge key... Its the reason that I wouldnt want to buy someones brainchild creation celica when he goes to sell it but if he puts up the individual parts in the for sale forum people pick up everything within 3 minutes. People dont want to drive STOCK cars.. their way of breaking from an otherwise mundane lifestyle (sorry guys but its true.. icluding of me)

Next up... like someone else said.. its like collecting stamps.. for me doing it myself is very important.. when i installed my neo player I gutted the entire inside of the car (EVERYTHING.. seats, dashes, steering, linings).. I didnt have to of course but i wanted to learn the most and do it the right way.

Finally.. there are mods that do plenty to your car in terms of improving it from stock... dramatically listed are those of suspension components.. when you consider TEIN or C-ONE you'll find that they really do much more for the car... so there are those looking for a big edge in an already blisteringly quick car in slalom autox .

Finally there are the bragging rights.. not only here on these boards but also almongst your friends, etc.. "I really do like it when my friend stares at my engine and starts hyperventilating... " its only a 4 cyl. but for what you can do to it ... you can make it look AWESOME...

Because there are so many reasons chances are that even withing the same person you'll find diff. reasons.. like in myself.. I'd pretty much list all of those as a reason myself. Hope this helps you understand as it's helped me.

I was never thinking of modifing my car, but when i got it, i just couldn't contain myself. I wanted my car to look good, and sound great. I'm not saying that the stock car is bad-looking, it's just that i would like it more if it was modified.

"Why are people so obsessed about modding the Celica?"

Why do people invest money in improving their home?
Why do people spend money collecting antiques?
Why do people spend money on model airplanes?

They all come down to the same principles. They want to spend their money on something they like and enjoy. Some people see it as a waste of money, but what's a waste to one may not be to another. Some people just have nothing better to do with their money.

The same question would be lost on me. I don't care what other people drive. I have no need to feel unique. I bought my car because it's what I wanted. I mod it because I like working on cars. I don't care what other people drive, or what they think of what I drive.
