Right now I have been thinking about upgrading my components to focals. I have done a search and all but reall haven't found an answer to this question. Has anyone installed the 7" set of either the polykev or utopia in the front and maybe the 6.5" set in the rear? If so what all was involved I am sure that you had to cut some of the metal frame in the front and build new baffles out of MDF or whatever, and pretty much the same for the rear. I would just like to know what I would be getting myself into.

you won't have to cut the metal. the metal has large holes. what you'll have to do is make an mdf baffle. just trace out the original speaker on the wood (the outside edge is a huge triangle shape) and the use a router with a circle maker attachment to make the mounting hole. then you find a screw that will screw into the factory holes where rivets where originally. (stock ones are held in by little metal rivets that you'll have to drill out or cut out with big wire cutters). i found screws that would screw in and hold tight, but if not you have to use a bolt w/ a nut. the tweeters on focals are the big issue. stock being a 1" tweeter the focals often have like 2" tweeters so that you have to look to see how much room you have to work with. the rears you can't really mount that big tweeter unless you do some custom stuff. and i'm assuming you're amping these w/ at less 100 watts rms per speaker or you're just wasting your time.
