that and when it comes with plastic fittings a LOT of things go wrong, either they dont have threading on the inside, the screws that hold it in place dont work well and after a while it just stinks

There was a guy on a subaru forum making custom rubber ones(so it won't burn your hand) with brass inserts so the threads would never get messed up..I forgot the site though...

well im not sure id like rubber, im looking for a look similar to the one i posted. im sure a hard plastic like high temp would do it or delrin

lol like id rather see if someone here that has the machinery and ability/knowledge to do it could

like im guessing all it would really need is a piece of either delrin or metal, an cnc machine or something similar and a threading machine to do the 12x1.25 threading inside and then powdercoat it

It's not worth the time to make these. would not be a high seller/ $$return.
A lathe would be the best way of making this. I can ask one of my vendors for a quote but you need to give me a drawing or dimesions.

basically id like for it to look just like the mishimoto one (w/o the M) im guessing the dimensions would be 4.5x1.5 inches? on top and then the bottom one idk. lol do you think one of your vendors would b able to tell the dimensions by just looking at it? either the mishimoto or the carbing ones (the black/gunmetal one) : http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb140/drivelinesales/Okuyama%20Carbing/carbing_shiftknob_321.jpg heres a link to a vid of them

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78CncvHvqkU&feature=player_embedded

thanks for all your help guys (it'd basically be the same dimensions as the carbing i guess)

One thing you need to check is how far the lever can go into the knob. If it's only an inch or so, you just made a longshifter. The stock knob goes almost all the way to the top, so the length of the lever is roughly the length of the entire assembly. Put one on that's a couple inches longer, and you're driving a truck. ;)

horty and i are both in the machining industry, and if you want a single knob custom made, youre going to pay for it as he said... unless youve got a friend with extra material laying around they just dont want, it'll be expensive.

ever looked into the xrs shifter? thats what i use, and i think its a really nice looking shifter... plus it has the right shift pattern on it lol.

i dont like that cane look to it, im not a big fan of it really, id rather go with just a regular stick to it, thats why i didnt think itd be that expensive to make

LOL no. looks like 2 7/16 long from here... i mean looks like 4.6250.....
Picture means thousand words. Just set up time for a first lot will cost more than the $70..

Give me a CAD drawing, material you would like and color. ill give you a quote.
I for sure dont have capability for knurls, so scratch that idea.

Thats going to be one tall shifter :AF:

well i have a short shifter already, im not looking to go back to stock size so what im thinking is have the threading go basically all the way through

yodaddyguido
08-05-2011, 09:13 AM
minor problem, unless you run a die down the length of the actually shift rod to the depth of the threads, youre still only going to be able to thread the knob about an inch deep.

ginobendezu

how would a die help?

wait a minute... wouldnt it also work if i got two or three nuts even and screwed them on to the original shift stick jb welded them together and then shoved them inside either an universal shiftknob or a custom one?

well guys im pleased to inform you that my thorough investigation for a shift knob similar to the formular spec/ formula kind or the mishimoto one is over. i found one on ebay (although its not black i'll probably powder coat it later on in life) it only cost me 15 bucks shipped BRAND NEW! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260825274364#ht_500wt_956 here's the link in case anyone else is interested in buying one

I like the Mishimoto style as well, and just ordered one. But they're back ordered 4 weeks and so i cancelled. That ebay one doesn't look too different and is way cheaper.

Yup looks just like it and it doesn't seem to be universal which is awesome. If u really want the mishimoto I'd say just powdercoat it black, slap a mishimoto logo n clear coat the bejesus out of it lolol
