I was wondering if you guys still recomend the Celica to people who ask you if they should get one and what not?

Me and a couple of other guys don't recomend it because of the limitations of the engine. I mean theres no sense in telling people to buy a car that I know they won't like. Cuz once they find out that they can't afford the EIP turbo and that it may take them alot of money to fix the car up if they even have parts that will be available.

I'm not disrespecting the car but I know that these guys that ask me these questions want "a turbo, nawzzz and be like the F&F." And I'm like "No." There's no sense in them thinking the car will do what they "dream" it will.

Yes I would still recommend the car. It still holds true to the vision I had of it when I bought mine. Very reliable, will last an incredibly long time, affordable, the exterior design is still eye catching even though there are tons of them on the road now for almost 3 years. For what it is ( a n/a 4 cyl 1.8l engine ), it's damn fast, handles excellent, and it's fun as hell to drive.

However going along with what you're saying. If someone is looking to be the fastest car on the road, I would not recommend a Celica to them.

I would still recommend it. Not everyone runs around with boy racer dreams of running 10s... or tuning their NOS timer and running 9s :ugh: Going fast has never been the Celica's strong point and it probably never will be.

Handling, lightweight, reliability, and a great looking car. In the world of cars you can only have two of the following, especially for 25k of car:

Reliability
Speed
Appearance

Well yeah. It's a great car. I love mine. But for those who think that it has a performance following I say no.

well the styling makes up for the slowness

Thats silly to not want to buy the celica because of the lack of a turbo/supercharger kit.

How many people turbo their cars? Probably less than 1 percent.

If you are looking for a car purchase and add a turbo, you should look at buying a car with a factory turbo/supercharger.

I asked God and he says definitely recommends the Celica but on the GTS coupled with a 6 speed with a few boltons.

its a nice car to drive.. and after about a year and 5 months.. its still fun to drive. but i do agree that there should be more for performance... not that i'll be going all into that and run 9s and 10s.. just so a few people can and so get rid of that toyota f*ck up "looks fast"

very great car, very smooth ride for a sports car. to tell you the truth your friends arent gonna put no turbo in their car. very few people put a turbo in there car. its a great car that comes with all the features you need, its pretty much fully loaded with everything. i recommend the celica, very reliable, and has a great engine sound!!

Actually the guys I know wanted one only if it had a turbo kit. After all they own an import shop, and or have already turbo'd cars.

3 out of 4 Gods prefer the Celica GTS over Honda Civic and Acura RSX.

I reccomend it to anyone. Its hella fun to drive, even stock. If you need reassurance, may I reccomend a Canyon run down Ortega Hwy....

Exactly. Its funny how 90% of the board wants a turbo kit out for our car, but only 5% will actually go out and buy one. I guess the other 85% just want something to brag about? (If I had the [insert brand here] turbo, my celica would smoke you!)

Sure a faster car would be nice, but if you bought the celica expecting to make the car faster, then your bought the wrong car and for the wrong reasons.

I dont know about you, but I bought the celica because I couldnt afford an s2000. Money is a big factor that you are leaving out.

I'd recommend it without hesitation or reservation. And I don't own one. That being said, I'd prefer an RS-X Type S. Why? Because a simple change of tires and brake pads makes the car come to life. Yes, it still needs to be lowered about one inch to reduce the tendency of the rear from getting loose under VERY HARD cornering [on a track, that is]. The savvy setup would be stiffer springs and properly re-valved dampers. But this costs money. A lot of money. It could also benefit from a limited-slip differential. To me the RS-X is a better car, but this in no way relegates the Celica to the rubbish heap.

The Celica is less expensive than the RS-X is nearly as fast in a straight line, is more nimble and "tossable". It's a good car, but the interior material selection is poor. I'm splitting hairs here, but I'd be happy with a GT-S Celica with 15" wheels, no sunroof and cloth seats, lighter flywheel and limited-slip differential... Yes, I'd like that set-up. A lot.

Celica is cheaper than the RSX? better check again!

I would still recommend people to buy a Celica. Its a great car for what it was designed to do. Looks great, nice interior layout, good handling with decent power and fun to drive.

My goal for for my Celica was/is to be able to be as enjoyable drive as the prsvious shape ITR on the street or on the circuit.

i only recommend it if I deem it what that person is lookign for.. I try not to talk up any car to much anymore.. every car has limitations in some area or another

From personal experiance, as well as research and comparison of average GT-S times from this board and average RSX-S times from the ClubRSX web board, the GT-S takes the RSX-S by a couple tenths on average NA with I/E.

Aside from that the fastest F/I GT-S has obliterated the RSX-S by 7 or 8 tenths...(Bryan H's 13.1 50shot on Drag Radials)

No @#$% on that last post.

The Celica GT-S 6-spd will whoop an RSX-S with comparable drivers...sure it'd be a fairly decent match up..and sure if you give the RSX-S some mods....but hell..if that's the case I bet with even amount of mods the Celica still would come out on top.

I don't like the RSX-S, and I'll be frank about it...I've test driven one for 30 minutes...and it just doesn't compare.

I really don't see where the hell you guys are getting this RSX-S crap is faster...and until one hands me my ass on a good run (equal mods) thats the way I'm keeping it.

And yes...I know exactly this many people with turbo'd cars that didn't come from the factory that way: 1

That's it...and I meet alotta people in my job.

As far as recommending it, hell yes...I recommend the 2000's , 2001's, and the 2003's.

I got fugging 7, count'em 7, compliments yesterday...that's in one day. And my cars been on the road since 2000.

And as far as performance parts, I just don't get what in HELL you guys are talking about...

We've got plenty of aftermarket support...my god there's like 10 different exhausts...4 or 5 different intakes, 2 headers, 2 or 4 T/C and S/C's in production, LSD's (cheap and expensive kind), Short shifters, Suspension kits (one that makes your car an exotic beater), strut bars, body kits out the wazoo, and everything else is negotiable (port and polishing, bla bla).

What the hells wrong with you guys?

No aftermarket support? Stop being such cheap asses and go buy some mods, and quit your bitchin'.

Jeez.

But STILL..gimme a break, guys!

Yeah, you guys want to see a lack of aftermarket support, check out the Saturn stuff. Saturn corp. themselves even sued an aftermarket parts manufacturer for using the name saturn in their company name, and threatened to sue even more. Looking around it seems you guys have it pretty good.

That is fine. Modding a Saturn is retarded anyway. Almost as retarded as modding a Camry.

I'd definitely recommend it if it's what the person was looking for. Most people I run across want a smooth ride, plenty of room, and reliability. But they also want something sporty so I point them to the Solara V6. Now if they're a 20 yr old kid wanting to toss his car around the corners, get plenty of looks, can accept a bit of road noise, and have "the best sounding N/A engine" then I'd recommend a GTS 6spd.

Chris25NJ
07-24-2002, 12:23 PM
forget the saturn...i could understand why there isn't a demand for an aftermarket for that car...but what about the cougar? There is a nice aftermarket demand/followers, and there still isn't much available.

I always tell people not to get one so there are less of them. But if they do get one, i tell to get a 2002 model since its the bestest of them all! Im so special!
