How often should the MAF be cleanned

How often should the maf be cleanned, I just got my injen CAI, and people are always talking about cleaning the MAF...Tanks

Depends on how badly you over oil your filter. Check it with a flashlight once a month and if its dirty clean it.

would you say its better to not use the oil on air filters? Or you think its still usefull just don't put too much?

i'm not planning on taking mine out every month, maybe every 6 months, but that's cause after checking it the first time at 40K miles (10K with the intake), it really wasn't dirty at all.....i would think that'ld be a good way of stripping those screws and messing up the seal against the intake.

Just don't use too much - a very light spotty pink will do the trick, deep sopping red is excessive.

As for how there have been numerous threads with pics... an aerosol non-residue cleaner is a good start. alcohol on a Q tip works if you are VERY gentle and take care not to leave any lint or debris on the element.
