Been perfecting my technique lately, bringing out the best of my new Nikon 17-55mm F/2.8 AF-S. Anyone else use it? Here's an example from my D7000 and a friend's Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8 AF-S:

Smart Sharpen using Lens Blur correction can create a similar effect, though High Pass gives you a bit more control. You can continually adjust the sharpness independent of the pic by altering the sharpness layer, vs a one time only Smart Sharpen. You can also reduce noise without reducing/smudging detail, to an extent.
