Hey I'm new to these forums and I really need help. I recently bought a 2000 gt that the guy hit a poll in. It needs a front bumper radiator and a/c condenser. Its been sitting for two months and is ready to be towed to my house but it won't start. It cranks smooth and he's used battery packs and everything to try to start it and now he is telling me the engine might be gone. We should be running a compression test soon but if there is no compression could it be something else then the whole engine? I find it hard to believe an engine with 140k could be gone from such a small accident. If anyone has any advice on what to do it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Compression test in all 4 cylinders first.
If theyre good, then it's time to check for fuel and spark. How long/far was the car driven after the accident? 1zz is tough but aluminum engine/head plus heat is a bad combo. Post up your compression readings and we'll go from there

How would I test for fuel and spark? The owner claims the car wasnt driven after the accident that it was towed straight to where I bought it but a little later they tried starting it and it wouldnt start. Ill post up the ratings as soon as I get them. Thanks for your help.

Why did you buy a car without knowing if it could even start? Not very smart.
Regardless, hope everything works out and welcome to the site!

For fuel, just spray some starting fluid into your stock air box and try to crank it up. If it starts for a second and dies, you'll need to test the fuel pump and injection pulse. If it doesn't try to start with starting fluid, and it has good compression, then it's spark related and we'll go from there. How much did you pay for the car? We wanna see some pics of the carnage, if you don't mind.
In the mean time, check out the rest of the site, the stickies in particular. There's a lot of info here, if your willing to dig for it. A welcome to the site

its a pole, not poll. send a PM to Boosted2.0, he is in Sealey which is fairly close to you, he will figure it out for you

Okay sorry for the long response time. The cars not with me (its being towed to my house tomorrow). I ran a compression test today and the needle twitched but didn't get any real reading. We tested all four cylinders and got the same result. Its been sitting for two months and has a new transmission and clutch installed by Toyota less than 20,000 miles ago. The car does get spark and fuel so maybe the timing is off? It cranks pretty fast. I just find it really hard to imagine that an engine can be gone or ruined from such a small impact. This is a picture of the impact that was taken today. Thanks for everyones help too! This is my second car (I sold my piece of junk neon to fix this up and have it)

Any advice? Should I check the timing chain? If so what would I check for and how would I do so? I really want this car running. thanks.

Did the airbags deploy? I can't tell from your picture. I know some cars come with a safety feature that cuts spark after the airbags are deployed.

no it was pretty minor, the radiator is caved in and half the bumper is off and in the first picture as you can see the black box that holds a fluid is caved in a little. I have another picture. Hopefully its just a sensor or something simple. I just don't know where to start yet.

Please elaborate on 'needle moved but didn't get any real readings'. Did the needle jump up, and then fall down? Or did it jump and stay at a certain psi? I hope not the first, cuz that sounds like blown headgasket or warped head. Give us the compression results, it's 1000 times more likely he drove it without water and killed the engine than it is that the timing chain jumped enough not start and not give a hard cranking condition
