i hate the carpet in my celica, its gross, matted, tattered, and time to go. im curious if anyone has done an alternative to carpet, such as hardwood or diamond steel plates, etc. also any thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated

You could always do what Jeep guys do and remove all the carpet and just remove all the carpet and use Rhino Liner. I don't think it would look that great in a Celica but if you are sick of carpet its definitely a choice. It might look kind of cool and I doubt anyone has done it.

such as hardwood
While you're at it, put a wood fire oven a la Top Gear.

Saves a **** ton of weight!

Not as much as you'd think (at least motor to motor, track to track). Now when you start to add up the extra wiring and buttons maybe a 2-3 lb difference.

my buddy just mentioned that the carpet absorbs sound, will my car be a lot louder on the inside without it?

I did similar to the diamond floor mats except i made mine from raw diamond plating and sprayed them with rhino liner cuz i dont like how flashy the diamond plating is

Replace the carpet with fake grass for a more natural feel
