Not bad, although the rear looks like a Civic:( . The top pics are the Japanese/Euro model. The bottom two may be the one for the U.S. market. I definately like the top one better.

Taking from the UK toyota site:

"Engine-choice will be equally extensive, with two 2-litre common-rail diesel engines, and a selection of three VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing - intelligent) petrol engines, ranging from a 1.4 to a 1.6 and a 1.8 version. In addition, at the top of the range will be the 1.8 VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing and Lift - intelligent) T Sport version, which features VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), Brake Assist and the same high performance engine used in the Celica T Sport, linked to a 6-speed gearbox."

I like the looks of the car, and I guess it will sell loads!

1NZ-FE (1.3L Vitz motor)
2NZ-FE (1.5L Echo motor)
1ZZ-FE
2ZZ-GE
3C-E (Diesel)

now, can you imagine a 2ZZ-GE Echo?

t2000gts

there will only be 1ZZ-FE powered corollas in the states. no hatches.

the 2ZZ-GE corolla hatch is disguised as the Matrix.

I like the Euro one better than the current one. It does look kind of like a squished up Camry;).

haha..... before u pass judgement.... motor trend says at frankfurt auto show.... that its highest engine is 192 bph... im sorry, but a 6 speed corolla WOULD burn our asses, no? And as for the styling, it was designed in europe, so thats why it looks like a jetta.... body shape must be "hip" (har har) front looks bland, but at least they didnt decide to focusize it like they did the Si... and the corolla/civic rivalry would be a joke, if honda keeps theirs as it is...

12-04-2001, 07:12 PM
OMG, its a Echo Civic.. guess thatd be called a Echoic :)

My parents are thinking about geting it when Its released in Australia.( Couple of weeks) I think we're getting the 1.8 litre 1ZZ-FE engine in the Australian delivery model. C-One Motorsport in Japan already have a nice bodykit for the jap spec version, does'nt look too shaby at all. Add a GT turbo developed kit at it, that thing would be a decent performer. Not ballistic, but a nice quick four door.

I like it. Its got potential. Still keeping the Celica though! hehe

The bottom pics are of an Altis. When I was in the Philippines last Sept. they were promoting that car and saw one when I was at one of the malls there, not bad looking. To my recollection I think Brad Pitt was driving it in the commercial. It comes with a 1.6 liter 3ZZ-FE VVT-i DOHC Engine with 116 Hp @ 6,000 rpm or a 1.8 liter 1ZZ-FE VVT-i DOHC Engine with 145Hp @ 6,000rpm

Yeah, my uncle in the Philippines bought one and showed me the pics of his Corolla Altis.

To meeh, it's more like they got the design from the Toyota Hybrid

Take a look at the Toyota Echo Verso in the Philippines:

NO, those are the new generation Corollas. We don't know what the North American market will get.

Damn, that looks sweet, I wish the US Corolla would have a design like that. That Corolla looks more like a VW Golf or the GTI.
How many HP's does that have???

Glad you like it :) It has 'only' 112HP. Takes approx. 10secs to reach 100km/h, but nevertheless, I had LOTS of fun with it.

the 1.6L 4A-GE is only VVT, a two stage intake timing system.

Sorry for the late reply...
The engine is this corolla is a 3ZZ-FE, and is VVTi alright :)

what the...3ZZ-FE? when did they start the 3ZZs :)

i wonder if there's a 3ZZ-GE :D

VZV21

I still need photo evidence of the engine sticker saying 3ZZ-FE. The previous generation of Corollas (pre 2002 for UK) didn't have the 2ZZ-GE as the top motor. Nonetheless, the only 1.6L engine that was mated to a 6-speed was the 4A-GE 20V. Internationally, the previous gen Corolla (world wide) came with the following petrol engines: 1zz-fe, 4a-fe, 7a-fe, or the 4a-ge 20V.

So basically I would like to request a pic of the engine, and the sticker that says 3zz (owner's manual helps also).

And if the 3ZZ was available, it would have been available in the 2000 Japanese Corolla (which is the 2002 Corolla in europe), and beforehand.

Hi all,

Its true that there is a 3ZZ-FE engine available,
there is even a 4ZZ-FE engine! The 3ZZ is a 1.6VVT-i (110HP, 0-100->10secs, topspeed 195km/h), the 4ZZ is a 1.4VVT-i (97HP,
0-100-> 11,8secs , topspeed 185km/h)
These engines are from the 2000 model. Dont know if these engines are available in other countries but here in belgium these 2 are the only u can buy (for the 2000 model that is, the all new corolla will have lots of different engines)...
Hope this information will help u a little :)))))

Greets,

Snoop

The 3rd and 4th pictures is what the new corolla will look like in the states. Toyota just showed us that pic in our seminar this tuesday. It will arrive end of Jan'02 and will have the Celica's 1ZZFe 1.8L w/130hp. The corolla will lose it's 4 wheel independent suspension for a strut and A Beam set up. The model line will be pretty much the same CE, S and LE. The interior was a surprise it looked a lot better than the canry's, very lexus like..

12-13-2001, 05:36 PM
yep, it gets the newest platform. The 2000 Corolla (JDM) switched to torsion beam rear suspension.

Went to my local Toyota dealer today, checked out he new Corolla (Jap spec). Been released for las weeks or so in Australia.
I have to say the interior does look very plush. Even the lowest model cars had nice black sportly looking/shape cloth seats. Not sure about the headlights when I got the chance to look at it up close. The hatch looks from the rear, very similar to the Echo. ATM bit undecided about the car.
