See! That's what I want to do. I want to make a background and place an image over the top of it. And when I learn that I'll learn to fade stuff into the picture as well. But for right now I want to learn to cut out an image exactly and place it into another pic. So far nothing's worked. Have you got any tips?

ok.. first u have to use quickmask.. by pressing "Q" then hit paint brush... and use paintbrush to paint the parts u dont' want black (use default black) then press "Q" to get out of quick mask mode and what u have is a selection of the object u wanted.. then copy and paste... to the image u want to place over..

tip: use INVERT selection select the opposite.. so like if its a lil thing u wanted.. paint that black.. and get out of quickmask mode and invert the selection...

tip2: black hides.. white reveals... white will erase the black..

there is no 1 way to do things in photoshop... u can get things done 5 ways at least in photoshop.. and end up with the same product... there are ez ways.. there are hard ways.. choose wisely.. my guru photoshop prof is krazy.. knows sooo many ways of doing things .. puzzles me

Hell yeah! It worked now. I'll use black from now on. I learned alot messing with all the settings and then putting them back into their original position. Thanks. :D

very cool. i usually use the lasso tool for selecting and use the eraser or brush to smooth out the edges. i've gotta try this approach now. :)
