As stolen from this article...

http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/dai/2001/december/20011204_dai_vibe.xml

"Pricing will begin at $16,900 manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), including destination charges of $560. The Vibe GT will start at $19,900 MSRP and Vibes equipped with all-wheel-drive will list for $20,100 MSRP, also with destination charges.

Vibe's interior features a cockpit-like dash that houses an available DVD-based navigation system and an in-dash six-disc CD changer, an "innovative" rear floor cargo system, and a standard 115-volt power outlet with a wall-type plug-in that can power a variety of electrical devices."

Can you believe that? The GT-S engine, six-speed trany, all wheel drive, DVD navigation, and other creature comforts... all for less than the price of the GT-S...

Of course it is a few hundred lbs heavier but... It still runs a 0-60 in low 8's (in magazine time) and we all know a "real" driver could turn that into mid 7's...

With N20 or Boost of some sort, this is a MONSTER SUV that would not be taken lightly...

But, it's ugly as SIN :D

I like my celica...:p

but the matrix looks better than the vibe. i wonder how heavy the AWD 1ZZ-FE one is...if that's 2800lbs or under...it's begging to be boosted :D

lastly, the celica IS a coupe, not a wagon/hatch and does handle better, accelerate faster, stop slightly sooner, and look a helluva lot faster ;)

For the billionth time, the AWD is not available with the 2ZZ engine.
I would guess some of the price difference is the fact that these will be made in North America, while the Celica is made in Japan. I may be wrong on that one though.

Excuse me Oh Great One! I'm sorry I didn't read it all...

'The all-wheel-drive version is available with the 1.8-liter base engine (123 hp / 118 lb-ft torque) and comes standard with an automatic transmission. "

I assume this is the January Issue? I haven't gotten it yet.

Anyway, ss if it's not bad enough that they use a little NA 1.8l with AWD, but the power is down a good bit compared to the GT, and standard with an auto?!?!??? If they don't offer than with the manual, I would be amazed. Although, marketing 'geniuses' never cease to amaze me.
