I need to know how to remove the little door where the ashtray is. i know that i can get it out, but i want to know if anyone knows how to take it out easily and without breaking it. i'm putting a NX switch panel in there, but i need the door to come off. let me know if anyone has done this, and how to do it please! thanx

You will also need a small pick tool to push out the 2 pins. They actually come off really easy...just make sure you dont loose them!

I know I know - Holy Thread Revival! But 'ashtray' 'door' 'remove' 'removal' or combination thereof searches do not reveal the answer, so....

Can any body pull together more thorough instructions? I'm not seeing the spring or the pins. Thanks!

If you take the shifter surround out completely you will be able to see the spring and the pins.

Worked great! Thanks!

For those who may need further elucidation - remove the shifter trim ring/plate by lifting up on the rear edge where the 'leather' enters the ring. pull up sharply and back slightly to remove the trim piece. There is a four wire connector to the cigarette lighter, remove that connector and if you've removed the shift knob, you can remove the trim, other wise just pull it up and over the shift knob to the side. Connecting the door to the tray is a spring. Pop that off using a pair of needle nose pliers or similar. You can push the two dark gray hollow metal pins using one side of the same pliers from the outside of the door towards the inside of the tray. when reinstalling, you should be able to push them back into position from the inside of the tray.

Hope this helps anyone else looking to do the same. I should have gotten pictures and may be able to do so later.
