Im content with teh car I have to start off with. it has the look I want, the potential for growth, and is just what a college kid needs......cheap speed.
with that said, and the decision made, i cured my handling woes in a one fell swoop tonight.
Fordpartsnetwork.com has had a special running for this month. Bullitt shocks and struts going for $173.99. Now, what are these shocks? Rebadged Tokico Premiums. (the blue ones) now on the Bullitt they're good for 600lbs front rate spring and 300lbs rear. The problem with the Bullitt springs are that they only lower the car 3/4-1 inch. that means body roll on the Fairmont (high center of gravity) so while it would have been a nice improvement over my stock 400lbs frotn and 180lbs rear springs, i decided to one up Ford's kit..
So I bought the rebadged Tokico's, and then went over to Gene Evans Ford(GEFracing.com) and picked up their FRPP C spring set. Unlike the Bullitts, these springs are 650lbs front and 300lbs rear(when the rear coil is cut) they're also linear rate springs liek the Bullitt, but provide 1-1.25 inches of lowering (optimal for use without caster/camber plates). Total cost shipped for these springs was $123.
The Bullitt Mustang attained .88g's on the skidpad using badyear rubber and the bullitt springs. I have full length subframe connectors, and now stiffer, and lower springs then that car has. the rims/tires are coming next..
so..domestic cars can't handle *sarcasm*...and for $300 i just made it stick as good as more expensive cars out there.
