Yeah yeah we all know about the break-in period, but does anyone know a direct consequence of not obeying these rules? I see lots of posts 'you just don't want to do it' , but none telling giving direct consequences.
Maybe it's just an over-precaution or something they put in writing for legal reasons?

what the break in period is for is to slowly break in your car parts. The internal of an engine is very rigied. ie. pistons. Then break in period is so that they are slowly smoothed out and have perfect friction. When break in is not obeyed one metal part will cause a scratch to another metal part and the seal between them will be less then perfect, which causes a premature death of the car.

There really isn't a need for a break in period on new cars.

Foo! RTFM, it specifically tells you to break the car in. It even tells you how to drive it during the break in period.
Not breaking in the car does not necessarily shorten the life of your engine but it does rob you of some power and effiency. Pistons and cylinders are a match set. Properly broken in, the piston is an exact match for the cylinder.
