if you did a search of XM radio in the audio forum you would've found this:

I didn't ask if anyone had read about it or could give me info that I have already found online. I asked if anyone had EXPERIENCE with it. That means actually using it in their car or at home. I already saw that thread, if it had what I was looking for I wouldn't have created this post.

so you should've brought that one to the top instead of creating redundant posts...

Either way I'm sorry to trouble you with any help

Well seeing as the last post was 2 weeks ago i figured a new topic was in order. What does it matter? Don't be so defensive about it. Thanks for pointing out that topic but you don't need to act like i'm an idiot and don't know how to search, which exactly how you worded it.

...back on topic...

I haven't had experience with it, but I am interested in it as well.

I will most likely wait for Sirus radio as I have a Clarion headunit since that is what will be supported.

I am interested in knowing more too, like user's experiences.

As a side note, my roommate was the construction manager for their NW D.C. headquarters. He was telling me about all the equip they were installing and showed me the layout of the studios.

When is it going to be available on the East coast? I am interested too. I have Pioneer Deh-P6300 to support it.

It's already available here. It says on their website (www.xmradio.com) that it will be available nationwide on Nov 15th.

that satellite thing doesnt really catch me that much because it like kinda just defeats the purpose of a cd and stuff and I dunno about you guys but I really dont care for it and its idea that much.

burn a cd with mp3 encoded waves at 320kbps and you'd know what xm sounds like.. its digital and its compressed.. I dont know what kind of compression they use but its gotta be something similar to the franhoffer encoding... who know.. probably sounds nice but waayyy too much money.. get a neo setupup for about 800 and you'd be set with about 1000 hours of music.. thats 40 days of straight driving

Spoke with the guys at Tweeter today and got the 411.

XM is available on the East Coast already. However you need these things to receive the signal.

1. A head unit that is XM compatible
2. A special XM antennae (around $100-$150)
3. A XM signal receiver ($200+)
4. A subscription to the service ($9.95/ Mo.)

So basically you have to pay out the ASS to get a radio signal. It is a cool idea, but Jeesus that's a LOT of ching to get radio.

I got my Alpine Head unit in part b/c it was XM compatible, but they never told me I would need to spend another $300+ to actually receive the signal. *******S!

Yeah they should have told you about the extras.

Look at the benefits of XM Radio:

#1 Its Coast to Coast
#2 Its 98% Commercial Free
#3 Its only $9.95 per month
#4 Its CD Quality
#5 Has just over 100 channels (News, Weather, Music, Sports)

So based on this info, and my experience i would get it.

As for Sirius Satelite Radio:

#1 Its Coast to Coast like XM
#2 Its 100% Commercial Free
#3 Its ONLY Music (No Sports, Weather, News channels)
#4 Its 12.95 a month (I think?)

ANyway I know u probably know all that but man this XM stuff is awesome!! I have had first had use of XM.

I just copped the tuner from my store for $149. It's the Pioneer130P900XM.
Now all I gotta do is subscribe and get the antenna. (another$90:( ) If anyone else has a Pioneer XM unit holla at me and I'll get you one discount from my store too.

yeah I gotta say that I was pretty pissed when I found out that my XM ready Alpine unit (to be installed on the 26th) needed an additional tuner and antenna to get satellite radio.. but i guess I'm over it. I should have XM up and running with my new system by the end of this month! :D

Well, the last post in this thread was in November, so let's update things a little...

Has anyone actually got the service yet, and if so, what do you think?

Is it worth the $10/month?

What's everyone else's opinion on XM Satellite??
