Looks like the HID is standard on all models of the 2003 Japan Celica. Since it's only low-beam, it may be an easy upgrade for all of us pre-03 owners.

I didn't know there was such a thing - low-beam HIDs. The things are so annoyingly bright for everyone else on the road, they might as well be high beams.

Not many, if any, production cars have high beam HID's. It'd be a waste since you don't use your high beams very much. Plus, I've heard that constant turning on and off of HID's shortens their lifespan considerably.

So, let me get this straight...you wouldn't have high beams? Or you would just have normal high beams? I know, stupid question...

Until recently, production cars with HID lamps used the HID for low beams and traditional Halogens for high beams. Several car makers have now switched to "Bi-xenon" setups that use the same HID source for the high AND low beam. This can be accomplished by tilting or extending the bulb using small motors, or by dropping the shield in a projector. This way the HID bulb isn't being constantly restarted which, as Blue Bomber mentioned, is hard on arc-discharge lamps. Most of these systems still house a tradition halogen that is used solely for "flash to pass". Take a close look at BMW and the new Saabs, you'll see what i'm talking about.

you wouldn't need HID highs...the lows give off daylight!!! hell...even my wannabe HID's cut through fog like a knife.

well i think it's really cool...if you have THAT much money to spend on meaningless crap like HID highbeams..more power to ya....i'd suggest adding in a custom turbo first..but that's just me

I was just wondering...thanks for the answers. Anyways, like Banana_Ryce said, I think an investment in such a setup would be for the all show no go bunch.

Drive a car with HID lows before considering spending the dough on the highs. I promise you won't need to by the high beams.

The only possible reason car companies are doing high and low beam HIDs is for looks and the statement. Completely unnecessary.

I find HIDs useless in chicago. We have street lights all over the dam place.

My Sylvania cool blues provide more than sufficient lighting, as I have driven my Camry to ABQ, New Mexico and back. I drove it up the mountains and everything. I got HIDs on my CL-S and besides the initial ooh aah factor, I really do not see the big deal.

Hmmm.....I won't go without em now, and you know I'm not one to care about the looks/color of HIDs.

I plan on replacing my stock headlights and fog lights on my 02 ...do the 03s have HID fog lights too? Because it wouldn't look right with white HIDs and yellow fog lights
