sorry i couldn't make it to the 626 meet guys...

I was with couple of my friends just hanging out and this guy I know came in his little motorcycle (it was one of those moped/scooter ones where you don't shift). Anyways everyone was trying it out just for fun and I decided to ride too.

here's the good part. I put on my helmet and floored the machine to 40-50 mph on a local street. Then came a sharp turn so I slowed down to 30 but couldn't counter steer and ended up tilting. The bike slowly fell toward the right and I was smashed between it and the concrete. My right leg, right arm was underneath the bike as it slid down couple of feet on hard concrete. It was one the worst pain i've experienced in my life.

As I lay there on my side with the bike on top of me, I thought I broke my leg or worse my arm... I slowly got up and dusted myself and realized I was bleeding all over. Both of my shins were covered with blood and there was a huge gash on my right arm. I also noticed that I ****ed up my express khaki shorts as well as my hollister collar shirt pretty bad (both brand new ).

My friends came rushing down the street asking me if I was alrite. Funny **** was they started gathering across the bike like 2 seconds after they saw me stand up. heh the bike was supposedly like 1500 dollars or something so I was pretty scared it was f'ed up. The bike was fine and I wasn't too badly hurt.

I also promised to myself I would never ride any type of motorcycle / moped/ scooter as long as I live.

Man, that sucks about crashing, from what I've heard roadrash is not pleasant at all. Motorcycles aren't inherently dangerous though, only crashing is. You shouldn't count yourself out of riding again though, the sport itself is a blast and there's a boatload of stuff to learn, not to mention that some of the people you meet are some of the coolest people around (If you exclude the increasingly popular street squid poser type who couldn't lean/turn a bike without a minor miracle).

I crashed 3 times in the past 13 months on my R6.. my last one was a 110mph lowside while at a NESBA Track Day at Carolina Motorsports park.. and I walked away with a small friction burn from the armor in my leathers.. Granted, I did have about $2000 worth of protective crap on..

Wait, reading all this over, I have to say that crashing does suck, even though asphalt surfing is almost a fun ride! :)

On that note, heal quick -- you've got meets to get to..

way to go, evel knievel. No wonder my insurance is so high. I hate squids.

Insurance didn't cover a dime of it.. that R6 is my track bike, and has been for quite some time! You insurance is so high because a) It's a high performance vehicle, insurance companies see those and start drooling.
b) Because of the thousands of losers out there who go buy an R1 or GSXR1000 and don't have the closest thing to a shred of an idea of how to ride, but go out and immediately whip out a block long wheelie into the back of a minivan.
c) Because of the guys that traffic surf down I-95 as fast as they can, then end up with a mortician picking a trunk out of their teeth.

I work in the motorcycle parts/racing industry, and have for quite some time.. I've got plenty of track time under my belt, and actually care about the sport more than any of those street squids that hang out at Starbucks or Main Street in Newark, DE only later to run down the nearest straight stretch with their engines screaming toward redline. You don't have to worry about what I do increasing your insurance rates -- preach to those guys.

Trust me, breaking your leg is worse than breaking your arm, I've done both. Having to learn how to walk all over again is not something I would like to repeat. I broke my leg in december, and I still have trouble with balance and what not in that leg.

although i never broke my arm, i totally agree with you about the broken leg being worse and having to learn to walk again. it has been 5 years since i broke my leg and 3.5 years since my fourth and final surgery to fix it, and i still notice that it is weak and walking even feels weird sometimes.
