I would research a bit on that ticket and make sure that it is legit. Cause if you are in a private parking area (i.e. in your driveway or at your work parking lot or any parking lot). Cops can not give you a ticket cause you are on private not public area.
At least that is what i have heard!

(my bf has tinted windows and when he parks in his driveway they can not give him a ticket cause he is not on a public street)

My guess is this was based on a city ordinance or a posted sign. I don't think there's any state wide law regarding head-in parking.

If so, you would have been written under a CVC code section. If that's the case, post the section number that's written on the ticket so I can take a look at it.

By the way, parking tickets suck ass.

The CVC code section is 21113(a). I was parked in my parking lot on campus at UC Riverside.

One thing that matters is if the parking is diagonal, or straight. If the road is a one way or two etc.. We'd have to see the logistics of the parking job to see if the ticket is legit.

its a parking lot with several 1-way aisles with diagonal parking.

that ticket is probably legit.

you were on campus, so probably the campus police gave it to you. you parked "against the flow" because lets say some guy is coming down that aisle to park, and youre leaving, youll be going the wrong way, potentially causing an accident. theres a reason they have it diagonal like that, so they can shrink the lanes down to fit only one car to allow more spaces in a certain area, but that means you gotta park head first or else youll be going the wrong way down the aisles.

just dont make the same mistake again.

oh frick why didn't i think of that before Assfault....but still i was at the very end of the aisle so i didnt have to turn around when i came into hte lot off the street....oh well at least i know now. Thanks guys!

yeah, i think its kinda weird ordinace, but when you think about it, it kinda makes sense, but they never tell you this kinda stuff is against the rules until you get a ticket. i had never heard of such a thing until my friend got a ticket for the exact same thing on LSU campus here in louisiana.

lets just say i make sure to park "with the flow" from now on.

:D

i could have told u that that was illegal. i always see cars in ucr with tickets for parking backwards in the diagonal spaces. what i dont understand is how u stand thru the inconveniece. its as hard to get out as it is to get in in one of those spaces.

hey man i know the feeling, the parking nazi's at ucr are killer, i swear they love to give tickets, don't feel too bad, but hey if it is bothering you that much you can try to fight it at taps, but heck it's only a 25.00 fee. I got a couple during summer. It sucked. STUPID TAPS SUCK!! damn you parking nazis.

That's why I asked about the diagonal thing.

I got a ticket in Cooperstown NY (Baseball HOF) - Hard enough to find parking...it was on Main St. & I saw a diagonal spot on the other side of the street (with no cars coming)...so I slap it into reverse & back into the spot. Pay the parking meter & off I go.

Came back to find that same ticket on my windshield

It's legit.

Kinda petty when you were the one on the END of the aisle as it wouldn't be an issue to screw-up traffic getting out. DOH!@

Lesson learned.

UCR parking is hardcore strict. My friend/senior design project partner got his truck booted for unpaid parking tickets. He had 7-8 unpaid tickets.. So i think you can just not pay and get away with it until you have your 6th ticket. :)

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner, but I find this section really interesting...

21113. (a) No person shall drive any vehicle or animal, nor shall any
person stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle or animal, whether attended
or unattended, upon the driveways, paths, parking facilities, or the grounds
of any public school, state university, state college, unit of the state park
system, county park, municipal airport, rapid transit district, transit
development board, transit district, joint powers agency operating or
managing a commuter rail system, or any property under the direct control
of the legislative body of a municipality, or any state, county, or hospital
district institution or building, or any educational institution exempted, in
whole or in part, from taxation, or any harbor improvement district or harbor
district formed pursuant to Part 2 (commencing with Section 5800) or Part 3
(commencing with Section 6000) of Division 8 of the Harbors and Navigation
Code, a district organized pursuant to Part 3 (commencing with Section
27000) of Division 16 of the Streets and Highways Code, or state grounds
served by the Department of the California Highway Patrol, or any property
under the possession or control of a housing authority formed pursuant to
Article 2 (commencing with Section 34240) of Part 2 of Division 24 of the
Health and Safety Code, except with the permission of, and upon and subject
to any condition or regulation which may be imposed by the legislative body
of the municipality, or the governing board or officer of the public school,
state university, state college, county park, municipal airport, rapid transit
district, transit development board, transit district, joint powers agency
operating or managing a commuter rail system, or state, county, or hospital
district institution or building, or educational institution, or harbor district,
or a district organized pursuant to Part 3 (commencing with Section 27000)
of Division 16 of the Streets and Highways Code, or housing authority, or the
Director of Parks and Recreation regarding units of the state park system or
the state agency with jurisdiction over the grounds served by the
Department of the California Highway Patrol.

Now that's a hell of a section to try to decipher, so just look at the bold parts. Basically it says that if you park somewhere, you have to have permission and you have to abide by their rules.

In order for this to hold up in court, the school must post or notify in some way what the rules are. If they're not posted at the entrance to the property, they may be printed somewhere in the registration papers or when you buy a parking permit or something.

If you fight the ticket, they'll probably show up in court with the proof, otherwise you can argue it.

FIGHT IT, FIGHT IT, FIGHT IT

Im sick of people just bending over and taking it..even when it's for just $25..

It's the principle of the matter. Most people get a ticket and don't bother to fight it, regaurdless of if they're right or wrong. I really doubt anything is posted that says you can't park backword..I just went over my reg. papers and saw nothing on parking, except that you must have a parking permit..

BTW, my school also has the diagnal parking as well.
