Hey everyone...I have a completely stock GTS and am located in Canada. I was fortunate enough to get the first Yellow one for the province of Alberta.
Anyways, as I have been driving it, I realized that the rev-limiter kicks in at 7600 rpm.........I was wondering if its possible to re-tune it at the dealership or do I have to buy a whole new ECU?
I know that on the 2000 and 2001 models that the rev-limiter kicks in at 8200 rpm
If you have info, can u please post a message or email me

not sure if it can be reprogrammed or not but you should be able to put an 00-01 ECU in that car and have the higher fuel cutoff.. no one has tested it yet though..

theres a reason they put the limiter lower for reliability reasons... which means the dealership wont do it for you... look for an 00 ECU and you'll be fine... it should work cause all the stock sensors are exactly the same between the two model years.

First, I'm assuming you have a 6-speed. When does your VVTL-i kick in? Remember that stock tachs are not very accurate. Especially near the redline. My fuel cutoff is above 9k by my stock tach. But my VTEC engage point is at 6100 and not 5700 by that same guage.

Yes, its a 6-spd, and the VVTL-i kicks in at almost exactly 600rpm.
I hate the rev-limiter because when u shift at 7600 rpm, the revs drop down to 5500 rpm, just out of the upper cam range.

Get a '02 Matrix ECU, it has a 8100rpm redline and a 8300rpm limiter (from reading the dyno in the Jan. '02 SCC). Unfortunately, lift appears to hit at 6200rpm.

Correct. It's not available for order in the US. Maybe next year?

ya, the Yellow color is exclusively for Canada as far as North American sales. It is the exact same yellow color of the IS300 or a slightly different shade than the MR2(gen 2)
We don't get the MR-S in Canada so I can't compare color with that....sorry

I wish my limiter started at at least 7800....this 7600 stuff is total crap!!!
On a different note....do your GTS cars have a full sized alloy spare???? or a space saver spare???

Thanks for giving a comparison we can relate too. The IS300 yellow is pretty nice. I've never put my car next to one, but the IS seemed a little lighter. Still a nice shade.

soon people will run out of 00-01 ECUs...is there any company that can 'duplicate' them?

its alot duller than the is300 yellow
it looks like the old mr2 yellow that has been washed out
its a weird color definetly no where near as bright as the type r yellow

Yuck. That doesn't make it sound nice at all. It sounds more like the nasty yellow those Tiburons come in from your description.

from pics it looks like IS300 yellow, not the older MR2 yellow

Pictures can be deceiving. The shade it looks like depends on how the color on your monitor is set. Do you have warm or cooler color settings. I go with a setting of about 7000K.

I know for a fact that the color is the EXACT paint code used on the IS 300.....its a very sweet color and looks great on the Celica

Like I said, photos can be deceiving. Paint codes, however, are hard to argue with. I haven't gotten a good, close look at a yellow IS300 yet. I did look at a yellow MR2 Spyder. It was a pretty nasty color. Too light for my taste. Too much like a lemon.

WOW!!! I wish that my lift would kick in at 600! That would be the poop man!:D

My limiter kicked in at 8200. I spent a long time in lift around the red-line and now have an engine replacement in progress at the dealer with only 19.5k on the car. I didn't do any mis-shifting and didn't have any mods on the car so engine reliability is in question. I won't be spending any more time in lift that I "have" to if I ever get my celi back.

can't be the engine...unless toyota put a different 2ZZ-GE into the Matrix/Vibe cuz they have the 8100rpm redline and 8200-8300 cutoff...
maybe you just got a lemon?
