OK, here's the deal, I went through a construction zone today on my way home and I think there was some kind of adhesive in the road because at the next stop light I went outside to car to see something and saw this white substance all over my sideskirt and rear bumper. But the way it is positioned is awkward, it almost looks like someone keyed the car. The thing is the stuff washes off in most areas, but seems to stick in others, it is almost like tar, but white. I just had my sides and rear painted, so I don't want to risk using a bug and tar remover for fear of messing up the paint job. What should I do?

It sounds like a caulk or a vinyl adhesive. If you take a warm damp rag and let it sit for a few it should soften it up enough to safely wipe away. Meguires Clear Coat bodyscrub will work on whats left of it. Hey, even try a clay bar...why not.

Good call. I used a wet rag today, didn't get it all off. I'll try a warm one tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

if you go with the claybar way, you'll need to re-polish and re-wax the car. claybar will remove EVERYTHING from the paint.. even overspray paint(according to meguiars.com)

While I definitly support the clay bar to solve your problem, I'm wary of using it on a freshly painted car. All I can suggest is that you have the car absolutely soaked with the detailer spray before rubbing the clay on it.

I tried the warm rag thing and it didn't get everything off still. I am going to try the clay bar thing someday in the future. I wonder how long I should wait though?

The sooner the better, before it gets too stuck on there. But then again you want the paint to dry.
