ok....

many have heard briefly about what happened to my celica three weeks ago...... stipped and smashed up !!!

this is the problem i am facing -

insurance is d!ckin' me around big-time !! it has been nearly three weeks and they haven't gotten off their asses and even gotten me windows fixed

they need to replace the dash - windows - rear interior trim - and then celica has to go to bodyshop for exterior damage !!!

approx loss of items stolen - $18,000

approx damage done to vehicle - $5500

ok.... insurance is saying that all my "non-stock" items are not covered because i didn't have separate policies out to cover them (they never told me this)

i have been paying $386 a month for "full-coverage" !!!

i am wanting to seek legal advise and am putting out a nationwide call to everyone that has ever gone through this with insurance on what i need to do .....

i want to consult a lawyer but don't know of any

if you might have one in mind that can give me advise....ext. whether it be via telephone/email/or whatever please help !!!

thanks everyone

actually what they are telling you is correct, non stock or non OEM equipment is not covered by your insurance. You have to carry "extra" coverage for that..

is there anyway i can get around that ?

back when my car was keyed they said that my vehicle wasn't rated appropriate and they re-rated my coverage from $170 up to $386 because of "modifications"

this isn't making sense to me

Yeah, that does sound odd... many ins. companies will cover aftermarket mods up to around $1000 with your regular policy... I know mine does (Progressive) .. but if they raised your rate more than $200 a month you damn well better be getting some extra protection.. :D

Let me get this straight, you are paying more per month for insurance than I am for my GTS (the car, not the insurance), yet you never took the time to find out explicitly what was covered, even though you had $18,000 invested (in otherwirds $18,000 to lose?).

Not to smart.

That being said, if they jacked your rates previously because of your mods, it makes sense that they should be covering them. Sounds like you do need to have a long talk with the insurance co (at least to ge tthe *stock* items fixed, like the windows).

Otherwise, ask local friends about lawyers they have used. Get a good lawyer reccomended (any), that person will be more than happy to suggest someone else to do the work if they don't do it themselves.

If real estate lawyer A gives me a good referall to criminal lawyer B, you can be sure that B will owe A and I will also suggest A in the future.

i believe they raise your rates when they look at your car becuase they view it as more of a high risk, that doesnt necesarily mean they cover it.. You really need to call your insurance company and find out exactly whats covered before things like this happen, thats why I called mine and found out I needed to add extra coverage..

2 real words, no offense: you're screwed. Basically there is nothing you can do because you aren't paying for the modifications to be covered but only because your car is more of a "high risk" target. The only thing you can do is seek advice from a lawyer, but there is nothing really they can do. A contract is a contract, and you would have to look over what you exactly signed up for. The only thing you could do is possibly ask the lawyer if you could settle w/ them, or bring them to court and see if they'd settle so that they didn't have to pay lawyer fees. But, I don't know other than that.

but even then.. the insurance company has a win win sitaution.. good luck finding a lawyer who would take on the case..

I am not very knowledgable with the law system. But it may be possible to take the people to court who did all this to you and make them pay for it. Remember the OJ civial trial when he had to pay because he was found to be a cause of the death of his ex just my suggestion you should talk to a lawyer and find out.
