I have a head unit, subs, and a amp pushing the subs... now my next step are the 6.5" speakers i was wondering how much difference they would make if i just got average quality speakers... and if i do get them would getting a amp to push the speakers make that much difference compared to using the head unit to push the speakers? Thanks

yes you will definitely hear the difference if you have an amp powering the speakers.. since u have subs already, if you got speakers powered by the HU, they may sound underpowered or weak compared to the subs. Just buy the speakers first.. see how you like it, and if u want more volume/power, then get an amp

thanks for the info...heres another one. How bout if i were to change the tweeters and not the speakers would i be able to hear the difference in the highs? Since i got the subs already for the lows and i get new tweeters for the highs wouldn't it balance out without the mids?

hmm thats a tough question. I don't have a good answer for that.. but I can tell you right now that I have some ppi components in front, and I'm not that satisfied with the speakers. I think changing only the tweeters would give a minimal improvement.

Also, when you buy components, they usually have the tweeters in the same box (i.e. a 5.25" mid component, with a tweeter). So if I were you, I just get that kind of setup rather than separate tweeters and stock speakers.

Having sweet tweeters and subs doesn't mean that they will balance out the mid freq. It's not like averaging in math 10,000Hz and 100Hz to get a sound that is 5050Hz. You will have a blank spot in your system at the mid freqs, especially if you amp the tweeters and subs and run the mids off the HU.

Many component systems come with crossovers or you can buy one separately to make sure that every audible sound freq is routed to the component that can best reproduce it. Everybody has a different idea on how you should set the levels so I won't get into that.
