Nitrous - Is it legal?

I have been doing some research on this, it seems that in some states you have to get a permit which is 5-8$, and then you can carry nitrous and use it. So far I would say from what I have read that it IS LEGAL. I heard you can get NO2 which has a derent in it to keep kiddies from sniffing it...

Short answer:

The thing I've always heard is that it's legal to have it & hook it up.

Just not legal to have the valves open or use it on public streets.

in NJ u have to have a permit but it doesn't cost anythng just fill out a peice of paper and the mails it in for you and in about 2-3 weeks u get it.and u can't have the valve open except at the track or legalized racing event.

anyway.... after fast and furious..if there are no restrictions, there soon may be, from what i heard, but my sources could be dum. who knows.

if you get pulled over, just leak some NOS at the cop and crack some jokes :D

well if it makes you feel any better in delaware its illegal to have the nitrous installed and the bottle hooked up.. well i got pulled over a few times with the bottle in the car and never once did they look in my trunk and see the bottle.. theyd have to be suspicous of something to do that..

majority of these posts are correct in the fact you CAN own it, and you CAn have it hooked up.
but there is a clause in the fact if you get caught racing, and they search your car, under probable cause they can impound your car.

if they find that your bottle is open, they can also impound your car.

the other clause is you can have the bottle open, but only at a race track.

most cops don't take the time to check the bottle. i had a cop ask me when i had my maxima what that bottle was in my trunk. i told him it was nirous oxide. he called in and ask if nitrous oxide could be used as a drug or for production of meth. i just laugh at him, then he cuffed me.

People have used NOS on the streets since they started racing on the streets. They still will.

well, there is no law in VA for running nitrous. I state trooper emailed me even and told me there was no law, and it was not illegal.
