Toyota only puts like 20k-30k tires on their cars.

damn, I must be filling them too much....14k miles (had the car since sept 2000, lol) and the center tread of the tires are almost completely worn...

I got about 11k out of mine before the center tread was gone. What a pain considering the rest of the tires looked perfect.

You're overinflated Marky...
I keep mine at 1-2 lbs. under the recomended settings...
BTW, I took my stocks off at 7500 miles... I've had the Enkei's on for 16,000 + and my Yoko Avid H4's are still going :D

Chiggy, here in the ghetto we can't afford things like you :D
As soon as my tires bite the dust, I'm getting new rims anyway. I just want to know how long I can expect them to last. I fill to about 40psi

32,000 and still going. I keep mine at 30 psi and there is still much tread left. I must be doing something right.:D

10,000 miles until the center tread was gone. No burnouts or anything like that either.

~16,000 before I got new ones at the insistance of my father. That's ok because I know what happens when you ride on nearly bald tires.

I got 15,000 out of mine. Would've gotten more had I known they wore out like that. I didn't rotate the tire until about 9,000 miles, and the front ones were worn pretty bad, and I don't drive the car to the tires limits much either. Had to get them replace when I failed inspection.
Changed 'em @ 30,000 miles. PSI was 32-35 always.
Tread was pretty worn, but they could have gone a little bit longer. (no balding)

10,000 miles on my stock Yokohama Advan A680s. No burnouts, jsut alot of hard cornering. They should have been replaced about 1500 miles ago, but I haven't gotten to findng a decent replacement set.

My 17's with 215/45 tires are going to be replaced soon. Got so far, about 16,000 miles out of them. Another 2-3000 miles and I'll get Yokohama 539's as my next tire choice.

40 lbs is way too high for a light car like the Celica. Toyota recommends 32. Over-inflation explains why the center of your tires are worn. The 44 lbs listed on the side of the tire is the MAXIMUM pressure rating from the tire manufacturer. By no means does that mean you need to inflate your tire to this rating. You need too follow Toyota's recommendation, as the loading on each tire has been accounted for in the calculation.
BTW, I have 13,000 on my OEM tires, and they look pretty good yet.

how do we know when the tires are worn out?
If you look in-between the treads, you will see little areas where the rubber is higher than the base of the tread. When the outside edge of the tire gets worn down to the point where these points are equal, you know its about time for new tires. Its hard to explain, but if you go look down the "valley" of your tire tread, you will see what I'm talking about.

I'm probably going your route. When my tires are through, I'll be pricing some 17"s. 40psi? that's way too high.

Does autocrossing with it counts? 21k miles including autocrossing miles.
What if grandma drove like a bad-ass racecar driver?

bought it 9/2000, 15k miles, @ 32-33psi and showing little signs of wear. I'm a granny shifter:D
40psi is too high, it doesn't matter what the side wall says follow the owners manual, for the stocks anyway. (32psi)

Mine lasted 16,000 miles. They were really bald 'cause... you know, I smoked the hell out of them!

Yokohamas made it to 18k, barely passed Texas inspection, replaced at 19k with Kumho's. It was scary driving in rain.
Ran them at 30-32psi, lots of hard cornering and burnouts with rotation every 5k.

I've had my car since April 2000 and I my Yokohama stock tires lasted 28,600 miles. The middle tread was worn too and they started riding terrible. I just changed them out last month to Kumhos.
22,500 mi with about 1/4 tread left on the stock Yokos. Then I went to the track and they were toast. Switched to Kuhmo 712's. Not really impressed with these. About the same overall performance as stock. A good value though.
