Query Alarm Status?

I want to wire my neons so they can only be lit when the factory alarm is not armed. I'm pretty handy with electronics, but I need a signal somewhere that allows me to determine if the alarm is armed or not. Does anybody know where to find it?

The factory RS-3200 VIP alarm has a blinking red LED, on the dash switch, with the microphone pick-up.

It should be possible to wire this to a circuit that "times out" when not blinking, to indicate the alarm is disabled. This would create the required signal, which could then gate the neon lamps.

There is no signal, external to the alarm, that I am aware of, that indicates the alarm status.

yeah - I thought about the LED but I was hoping there'd be an easier way .... maybe I'll fish around with a meter or something.
