i believe hte redilne is at 6800 or 6900 or somethign liek that isn't it??
i dunno.. but it seems when i redline it i can take it a notch over the red... so i'm guessing i'm up in the 7000s too... and i have a 2000 as well

How do you test out the cut off fuel of your car? Just step on the gas until it doesn't go anymore? I think mines can go higher then 6800 but I never pay attention to where it stop though.

Looking at the tachometer to determine the cutoff isn't the most accurate way to determine the actual cutoff, but at least my GT-S tach appears close to correct cause the tach indicates about 8300rpm when the cutoff hits, and the couple times I've hit the cold engine cutoff at 7100rpm (whoops :o), it's appeared close to 7100rpm.

i think the GTS tachometers are quite accurate...up to 8500rpm anyway. my fuel cutoff (auto GTS) appears to be exactly just before 8000 and an s-afc on another owners car reported it to be between 7800 and 7900.
this as opposed to some hondas where people say they're off by almost 500rpm at times?! (my friends' GSR reads 8700 @ fuel cutoff!)

On the GT it is 7150 rpm... You can find the relavent info on the 1ZZ-FE at Toyota Japan's BEAMS technology page.

It seems that my car used to get just over 7000 rpm before fuel cutoff, but as of a couple months ago, it always cuts off around 6800. I got mine in Feb. 2001:confused:

hey thanks for the replys .. i was just wondering one more thing .. this was the first time i did a stop light run with my friends civic ex .. i redlined 1st .. but when i reached really close to redline my car kind of stalled .. like it didn't pull anymore .. like there was no more power so i shifted .. does anyone know what happened ?? .. btw it was a horrible race .. we were bumper to bumper up to 50, i pulled like a half a bumper away .. err.. but my car was full of luggage as i was going back to college. Oh one more question .. anyone know how to chirp 2nd gear with the stock shifter ? i can rarely do it .. thanks

yea, you reached the rev-limiter(fuel cutoff). It does that so you dont over rev and blow your engine.

Let me stop talking out of my ass. I just tested and the highest I could get my RPM was 7044 according to my safc. I'm guessing actual cut off is 7k.

you did hit redline! All that will do is slow you down. You don't have to take it all the way to redline to shift. Think about shifting around 6600 and see if that doesn't help you. Peak horsepower is at 6000 I think(just trusting my memory sorry if I'm wrong). So going much over 6000 is not that beneficial. Peak torque is even lower. I have hit redline a few times and lost by half a car length when I should have won.

Well the idea is to take your car just past peak hp, then shift. so you land closer to peak in the next gear. i dont know how to explain how to chirp second, other than shift faster, with feet and hand. its pretty simple. i can bang second like its nobodys business. LOL

My cut off is right at 6800

You should shift as close to your fuel cut off as possible. If you only shift at 6600 you will fall WAY the hell back in your powerband. That's the advantage of shifting at max rpm.
