Has anyone stuck with the 15 inch rims? Hear me out: A car this light doesn't necessarily need such large rims. I know from my Miata days that the difference between the 14" and 15" rims was a trade off between more grip but less response because of the increased mass. If the stock 16" rims on the GTS are 18 lbs, wouldn't lightweight 15" rims (15 x 7) with super sticky tires save TONS of unsprung weight and supply substantial grip? I know people go to 17" to get the bigger (& heavier) brakes but it seems that if you trim the car down to under 2500 lbs you have plenty of brakes with upgraded rotors and stainless steel lines.

You are absolutely correct. But 99.999% of the people on this board including myself get bigger rims just for looks. Not to fit bigger brakes which the celica doesn't need. Stock brakes are more than good enough.

Bigger wheels and lower profile tires have less roll in the sidewall under hard cornering. You can still get some verry light wheels in larger diameters. They also are usually wider as the diameter increases giving a bigger contact patch.

Also On top of that, you can look for 17 and 18" rims that are lighter than 18 lbs. if you're willing to shell out the extra couple hundred.

I got 17's because I could get them in wider sizes. 17x8. also I do plan on upgrading the brakes as well. the Celica stops great as it is, but I want better!!!:D
