Hey all... I am approaching the dreaded 30K mark on my Celica, and I wondered if it's worth it to take it to the dealer and have them do their $279 Blue Color Job. I'd like to hear any comments or suggestions.
Thanks,
Chris
Even if you could do this yourself, while your car still has a warrantee, why not do everything possible to keep it in good condition. The dealer mechanics will inspect the entire car and if they find anything wrong, they can fix it then. I just had the 30k service done on my car and the dealer found and corrected a problem with the serpentine belt tensioner under warrantee. If you just change the oil or rotate the tires, you may overlook something the dealer will not. And if you continue to skimp on regular maintainence, you could end up getting nailed with repair bills after the 60K powertrain warantee expires.
Good luck.

30K service will run at or above $300ish. I did some stuff, and only had them change coolant, check everything, wheel balance, PVC, & fuel filter and it came to just under $200.
The valve clearance on the maintenance manual doesn't apply, and the sparkplugs are good for 100K, although I checked mine at 36K anyway.
wasn't there something about getting a valve adjustment every 15000 miles????

I believe it's the self-adjusting type. I was going to have the dealership take care of it too, but they said that it didn't apply to the celica.

Being a Toyota Tech. and owner of a Celica, my opinion on this is.......don't waste your money. I just turned 35K on my 6spd GTS and can honestly tell you the only big thing you should do at 30K is CHANGE YOUR TRANNY FLUID!!! Whether it's auto or manual. I changed mine last week and I can honestly say I have never seen such nasty gear oil come out of anything! I will admit I race my car quite often (street mostly) so I'm by no means easy on it, but I never expected it to be that dirty. And the tranny "marble" sound I've seen mentioned here before, I too had it in my car before the fluid change. Now I can barely hear it. As i said don't waste your money, just change your oil regularly and change your tranny fluid/gear oil (whichever applies) at 30K. Check your tires occasionally for abnormal wear, no reason to get an alignment if you don't need it.

NIGHT135: I live at the opposite end of the sate from WVU. I live in the very southern part of the state(Mercer County) . Near the WV/VA line. There are hills and such around here but we have an Interstate (I-77) and US Rt 460, both excellent places to race. Only problem I have here is there's hardly anything to race! Mustangs and Neons mostly. I friend of mine from VA is who I usually race, he has a '01 Type R. Most of the people around here just all show and no go but there are a few of us around who are all go!!

I bypassed the 15,000 mi service and got the oil and lube instead. All they really do is alot of checking, not doing. I was planning on getting the 22,500 service though. Now I'm having second thoughts about that too. I'll need the check what's done on the 22,500 mi service.
