put simply, HID's are a new type of light that is way brighter than regular car headlights. they are the types of lights that lots of high-end cars (mercede's, BMW, porsche, audi, etc...) have and put off a bright white/blue/purple glow to them. i believe they use a different type of gas or something, and are available from aftermarket companies but like you said are also a 2003 option.

No it is a whole system not just bulbs. It requires new ballast, wiring, etc..

The bulbs use xenon gas instead of the usual argon, that's why they look white or blue instead of the usual orangy color.

MuleDoe, The sets really vary..i think they run from a few hundred dollars for the really low to around $3k or so for the truly top end ones. YOu would have to do a bit of research i think.

yea, most new lexus' have HID's. they do also have bright yellow fogs on the IS and GS which might be what you're thinking about. the actual HID light varies depending on what company they are but they are all usually a purple/blue/bright white color.
