Best tire size for 17in wheels?

I want to know whats the best tire size I should get with my 17in tires?

17x 7
I would go with a 215/40. It is only 0.3% smaller than stock. Looks best also.
or
215/45 to get better sidewall protection for your rims.

17x8
225/45 would be slightly larger than stock. Will help you take advantage of the wider rim.

225/40 but there is not a very good tire selection in this size

215/40 on a 17x8 is what I went with becuase of the poor tire choices in 225/40.
