A friend of mine attempted to do a burn out with my car, he spun the tires all the way through 1st...but then he shifted to second and tried to keep going. What happened was that the tires stopped spinning and smoke was everywhere! HE WAS FRYING MY CLUTCH!! Turns out he fried it for a good 4 seconds......

After the incident, I drove my car around for a good while....It seemed different to me. 1st and 2nd gear were fine....but when I shifted to 3rd gear..the rpms stayed at 4k for a sec..then it jumped really quick. It was pouring....so It couldve been the lack of traction that was causing that.

My question is....What symptoms do I look for that I need a new clutch?? And should I be worried or am I just paranoid?!Thanx for reading the long thread...please, I need advice!

Drive 30-40 mph in top gear (5 or 6) and floor it. Do the revs rise faster than you are accelerating? If so, bad clutch.

Otherwise, you should be OK. I suggest not letting this "friend" drive your car anymore.

The best way to test your clutch is to drive in reverse ....maybe about 5- 10 miles an hour...and while you are rolling backwards still...shift in to 2nd and try to go. If the car stalls.....good clutch!
if the car revs high and starts slowing down .,,,then moving forward...bad clutch..

it is the best way to test it....hope your clutch aint fried man....

good luck

Fry it again... this gives you a reason to get an aftermarket clutch (i.e. ACT Street Clutch set up) and Limited slip differential upgrade. When my clutch went... I did what autxr and blackgts2002 did. I tried flooring it @ 60 mph on 6th gear and my engine ran all the way to 7 grand w/o the clutch ever grabbing. All I would see is black smoke and smell burned clutch. Yummy. So what did I do? I went out and bought the ACT street clutch! It only took me and my bro's dad 3 days to install!

Bring it to a good shop and it can be installed in 3 hours, not 3 days.
