all I have to say is WOW!
I borrowed one from my old work for a show this weekend(had to put down a deposit), have the thing in my car, and WOW!
This is THE cleanest sounding sub I have ever heard. The thing needs about 250W Min, and I'm only running 150ish to it, and the thing knocks, and is just clean... i came across a bass mp3 in the carputer that was buried in a random directory I was listening to, and I felt like i was taking a bass shower it was so clean!
anyways.. when i turn it really up, it distorts due to lack of power.
I'm not sure whether I want to keep this thing, then get some new amps, or just bring it back, and get my deposit back since the show is over.

You should really consider the JL W6v2s. I bought two JL 12W6v2s and man I must say the sub is excellent. It uses many of the same technology as the W7s. It pounds hard and the SQ is top notch. In fact I have decided that 1 JL 12W6v2 is enough for me. I am selling the other one to my brother. I'm powering the sub with a JL 500/1 amp.

You should keep it. This is definitely one of the best subs out right now and plus, you seemed to enjoy it.

I have heard the W7 and I really like it. However it requires too large of an enclosure, requires lots of power and costs too much.
The W6V2 is not that far behind, works with a much smaller enclosure, does not need as much power and costs much much less.

I upgraded from a JL300/2 ampt to a JL 500/1 amp and melted my monster cable 8 gauge wires. I had to rerun with 4 gauge wires. LOL!

Wow! Can it handle that much power? The JL 500/1 is like 700+watts peak. I have it hooked up to my JL 12W6v2 and I love it!

lol.. yeah.. my system isn't gonna be super loud (which is fine) but it'll sound clean...
the 500/5 is
250 to the sub
100 per front
25 per rear.
building a amp rack for it right now (or should i say waiting for the paint to dry)

i have a 3 jl audio w6v1 12" subs that are loud... even with about 330 watts to each woofer... :) but the w7 beats them ...i want to trade my 3 for the 1 w7 13"....its sweet but expensive. I got plenty of power thats for sure, enough to shake the hell out of other cars besides mine, if you know what i mean.... w7 and w6v2 u cant go wrong thats for sure!

yeah.. i was pushin only ~ 140w to the w7 w/my soundstream which is why it was underpowered, and i could still set off car alarms w/the volume lower than what it takes for the thing to start distorting... once I install the 500/5 so i can have 250 to the sub (the minimum) it shall sound quite nice :)

checked my pm's and replied.
anyways, i hooked up the amp.. sounds good, but the bass still distorts at high volumes... i think it's time to get some 4AWG and hope that fixes it.
I hate running wire!!!!

man forget the JL's. My bro has them and all but the Solo Berek L7's are just dominant. got the 1200.1 amp and everytime i turn it up for more than a minute itll knock my rear view mirror off. Ive glued it back on 3 times already. these things pound. Im looking for more power actually, heh. wanna make the celica all show. either that or im doubling everything (4 12" L7's and 2 1200.1 amps) but i dunno if ic an fit it all in there). just my .02$

Solobarics are definitely one of the best SPL speakers. Better than JL or not is a debateable. Some people swear by Solobaris and others by JL. I myself prefer the SQ of JL as opposed to Solobarics.

yeah... the w7 is cleeaaaaaaaaaan!
anyways... update... I upgraded my power wire to 4AWG, threw in a 2 farad capacitor, and the quality went way up!
Next up... upgrade the wire going to the sub... I think I'm running like 14AWG to it... definately too small.
I'll post some pics later of the trunk (temporary till i build something custom)

2 Farad cap? Man that is overkill. I burned my 1 Farad cap so now I am capless. My lights don't seem to be blinking so I will hold off on a getting a new cap.

my lights were dimming like crazy before the cap... plus, i only spent $100 on the cap.. so i'm not trippin

Nice install. One of these days, I will sell my 12W6v2s and get a 12W7.
00CericaRuss

the install is quite temporary... I'll be doing a custom enclosure at some point in time... not sure when though

Depends where you shop and which model you get. You can get MRSP at http://www.jlaudio.com ... Ebay has the best deals but often no warranty.
