View Full Version : What type of radiator fluid to use?

I noticed my radiator fluid is on the low side, so naturally I want to top it off.

But either my memory deceives me, or I remember reading the Celica uses some "special Toyota red coolant" that shouldn't be mixed with the regular coolant?

So I either have to drain all the coolant in there currently and replace it, or buy some additional "special Toyota red coolant" from the dealer (price?). Or can I just add any regular coolant? The Owner's Manual isn't much help, it just says to have the dealer add coolant if needed.

buy Toyota red.

Not all long-life coolant formulations are compatible.

Stick to the OE Toyota Coolant, and you'll be fine

Do you guys know anything about the redline water wetter?

It was originallu used in racing for water cooling (no antifreeeze). The Water Wetter enhanced the cooling properties of the water, aminig the cooling system more effective. It made the conductive heat transfer coefficients higher.

For us, it's supposed to be compatible with teh ethylene glycol and also the non-silicone based antifreeze. But also, redline recommends yearly fluid changes when using the Water Wetter

Is any of the two same as the OEM?
