for about $100 more you can get the Bel 980. Its rated #2 among radar dectectors, next to the Escort Passport 8500.

I have a Bel 870 got in Ubid for $69+ship

Pretty good. Has voice and stuff. Read a review on eopinions.com and was considered the best radar detector under $150.

Now I know every supermarket in my area without even looking. haha. Reason I didn't want to spend too much is that I have it hardwired install permanantly to my windshield. Putting a Valentine 1 there is like putting $400 on your dash board. Take me!

Read this review by a Highway Patrol who also tested the Bel 980 and Passport 8500, but brought the Bel 870 for his daughter.
