What happens if a faulty belt tensioner is not replaced? I've been trying to get the dealer to replace it but everytime I'm there the belt tensioner does not make any noise at all. Thanks for any input.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Somebody said they had their tensioner replaced and felt a power increase.

Does the car make that squeaking noise after you start up cold? I got the same problem, but the dealer said they have to hear it. And wouldn't you know it, doesn't do it when I leave it with them overnight.

it takes about 15 seconds before it starts squeeking. The people at Jim McNatt Toyota/Dodge said that there was nothing else they could do. suggested i take it back to the place i bought it and see what they could do. have not taken it back in yet. buncha moneygrubbin s.o.b's

i had tensioner and belt replaced, but now it seems to be coming back...
Its been raining the last 3 days too, so I am sure thats part of it.
It goes aways after like a few minutes.

hmmm, my car just started squeaking at 19,000 miles, and when I brought it in they replaced some belt (V-belt or something). This stopped the noise. Earlier I had heard sqeaking, but only on humid days. Sucks, but you will probably have to wait until it happens consistantly then bring it in. Of course, my dealer seems to be pretty cool. They even wash the car after they service it....

this sounds really wierd, maybe our cars arent designed to get wet. if we get enough people with this problem maybe toyota will recall their entire belt assembly and give us something that is capable of running through the rain.

I had the same problem. Squeeked when it rained, got the belt tensioner replaced. It then happened again and they found out it was the drive belt so they fixed that too. No actual improved performance. My dealership gave me a hard time too. Just keep on nagging them and insisting it is the tensioner or belt. They'll give in trust me.
