Wonder if there is room for the TRD supercharger in there anywhere? Did you check out the inset box with the formula car? 255BHP 1.8 Turbo, would they be using the 2Z engine?

We talked about this a while back.....
NO supercharger cannot be used because they put the VVT-i motor in there. The supercharger is meant for teh non-VVT-i V6 1MZ-FE motor.

I'm going to assume it's the 1Z....I have heard of hp #'s that high from turbo 1Z engine. But who knows.
I am curious what the weight distribution for the v6 spyder is going to be, I hope the larger, heavier and torquier engine in the rear doesn't completely riun the spyder's handling characteristics. It'd make a nice winter car...heh:D

Well, if "management" does "give the project the nod" (In Europe?) then how much storage will the car have ? 1/2 a cu. ft.?
Right now the car has 1.5 cubit feet total. The Boxster, for example, has about ten times as much, 11.5cu.ft. And by the way, you can get a nice 30k mile used Boxster now for $27 grand, and the MR2 will never be a Porsche, no matter how hard it's been trying to rip it off.

MR2 Spyder....what? (http://www.spyderchat.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Main&Number=130285&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&part=)
Is a fiero a ferrari? Don't matter what the car is....just how much you like to see it and drive it. At least that's my sad opinion.

I have a lot of respect for Mr. 2. I used to have a 4A-GE rwd Corrola, and the MR2 has always been one the only really small sportscars I fit into. Also, Toyota deserves to bragg in the ads about what a light car it is, because it is. I was just trying to beat the naysayers to the chase... the Boxster comparisons are already flowing freely elsewhere, including the link above. You are right though, they are totally diff. cars. One just needs to drive 'em!

The MR spyder isn't competition for the Boxster. It costs 20k less. How is that competition. And 7500 dollars worth of mods puts its performance inline with cars that go by the name of Carerra, Modena, and Corvette.
Do I wish the Spyder had a trunk? Of course I do. But tht is the ONLY shortcoming of this car. would of glad taken another 10 inches of length and the corresponding extra weight so there could be some real luggage space, but thats not what the car was meant for.

I don't know why everyone is bitching about trunk space... What do you think the passanger side is for when you need more trunk space?? Also how many of us drive around with loaded trunk?? My trunk is empty 99.99% of the time. I get a sports car not for its trunk space I get it for performance, if I want trunk space I get a SUV!!!

I always liked the MR2 from 1st to 3rd gen. I'm disappointed this generation does not come with a factory turbo though. It's very underpowered.

I always wondered why it isn't available with the 2ZZ-GE engine?

This gen is 3rd gen.
I believe the first gen MR2, around 1986, when the supercharger was available....it was as quick as the current MR2 sypder today.

The older ones were actually slower than the new ones. The turbocharged version of the last generation MR2 did the 1/4 mile in 16.7 seconds, the new MR2 does in 15.6 seconds.
I would still like to see what kind of times the new MR2 would have been capable of if it came with the same engine they use in the GTS, and it still confuses me that it is not an option for the MR2. Did they wanted the power delivery to be more predictable to compliment its great handleing? Or is it not possable to use the 6 speed transmition in the MR2? We all know how crappy the 2ZZ-GE engine would be if it were coupled to a 5 speed gear box.

it's a car meant to have a very linear powerband that's why...

the mrs is meant for superior handling.
thus rear wheel drive, mid engine, 2100lbs... beautiful.
now you know what happens if you hit lift while turning a corner? they didn't want happening :)

I guess hitting lift in a corner would be kinda like spooling the turbo in the second generation mr2...although I have not seen any dyno's of stock turbo mr2 to compare how abrupt the power change is.
